Job overview

To assist the Headteacher in establishing and developing the school as a high achieving SEND school through providing the highest standard of teaching and learning and an engaging, broad, balanced curriculum for all students.

To be an active member of the leadership team assisting the headteacher with strategic and day to day management of the school, particularly in developing the “whole school perspective”.

In collaboration with all designated leaders to deputise for the headteacher when absent.

Leading Planning and Organisation

  • To assist the Headteacher in the process of devising, implementing, monitoring, assessing, and evaluating the strategic management of the school, including areas of staffing, curriculum resourcing, students’ behaviour, and achievement.
  • To take a lead role with the Headteacher and other Assistant Headteachers, in the school’s pastoral and disciplinary procedures, supporting and promoting the agreed discipline policies.
  • To assist with setting and monitoring of professional standards for all staff.
  • As a member of the Leadership Team respond to discipline referrals by staff promptly and investigate each one fairly.
  • In carry out duties demonstrate an awareness of health and safety and safeguarding policies.
  • To be pro-active in the day-to-day management of the school.
  • Undertake other duties as may be reasonably required by the headteacher.

Leading Teaching and Learning

  • Be an excellent practitioner who is an example to staff, students, and parents in terms of:
  • high personal standards of classroom practice
  • providing stimulating and challenging learning environment
  • excellent subject knowledge of English, development of literacy and ICT
  • the ability to plan, assess and evaluate a range of needs and attainment to a high standard
  • high aspirations for all students
  • excellent record keeping, and attainment
  • commitment and professionalism
