Job overview

Fortis Senior Academy (KS4&5) is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic Assistant Headteacher (Safeguarding and Student Welfare) to join our new Senior Academy Senior Leadership Team.  This is a new post to the school and has arisen due to the restructuring of the school into Senior Academy (Years 10-13) and Foundation Academy (Year 7-9) and will take responsibility for Safeguarding and Student Welfare as well as having an oversight of Behaviour in the Senior Academy, supported by our Campus DSL.  This is a very demanding and rewarding role which provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to transform the lives of most vulnerable students whilst also impacting more widely on the welfare of all students.  This is also an exciting opportunity to lead a highly professional and committed team of staff whilst also playing a key role in the success and future development of our new school model.  If you are ambitious, fully committed to our six non-negotiables of a Can-Do Attitude; High Expectations; Altruism; No Excuses; Compassion and Empathy, we would love to hear from you.

Informal conversations for this post are warmly welcomed and potential candidates are invited to contact the Headteacher’s PA (Senior Academy), Sandra Clare on 0121 366 6611 to arrange a discussion with Mr Christopher Czepukojc, Headteacher Senior Academy.  Two dates for a tour of Senior Academy will be arranged for Friday, 18th September at 9am and Friday 25th September at 9am.  We look forward to meeting you.

Please email your completed application form and covering letter to secretariat@fortis.shaw-education.org.uk

Fortis Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

About Us:

Fortis Academy is sponsored by Shaw Education Trust. We are based in north Birmingham and have a large, diverse and vibrant community of students. We have a well-established and very successful Sixth Form.

We pride ourselves on our strong ethos which values inclusion, good citizenship, mutual respect and collaboration.  We aim to provide a wide range of stimulating opportunities to expand our students’ horizons within an environment in which they feel safe and well cared for and in which they can achieve their best, develop self-confidence and flourish as individuals.  We encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their children’s education; only when the school, the child and parents/carers are working together will children excel.

Our large and established Sixth Form, which is rated as ‘Good’ by OFSTED, specialises in providing high quality Level 3 qualifications and Level 3 ‘applied general’ qualifications.  Year on year we are getting more students into the top Russell Group universities and are significantly exceeding the national average in doing so.  The breadth of subjects offered provides both our students and our staff with great development opportunities.

Our students are drawn from a diverse community and, as OFSTED have noted, there is “comfortable cohesion” and our students “work together and play together well.”  Visitors frequently comment on the pleasant, lively and friendly atmosphere in the school and the great sense of energy and purpose among staff and students.

The school has strong, mutually beneficial links with local schools, universities, employers and community organisations.

Working at Fortis:

We are very committed to the continuous professional development of our staff, and have worked hard to embed sophisticated, innovative strategies to improve teaching and pupil outcomes across the school.  Many of our staff have chosen to develop their careers at the school or have returned to more senior roles after a period working in other schools.

We have a highly developed and well established programme for providing NQT’s with the necessary support to achieve a successful and smooth first year in their new careers.  It has been described as ‘an exemplar of good practice’ and is frequently praised by our partner teacher training institutions.  Fortis Academy is an excellent place to build a career.
