Applications are invited from charismatic, enthusiastic and suitably qualified teachers for this exciting, rewarding and demanding post within our Mathematics Team working across three secondary schools within Cathedral Schools Trust. 

The Trust comprises of seven schools, three secondary and four primary, though it is likely to grow with additional primary schools over the next 18 months. 

The post offers a significant opportunity for career enhancement from middle leadership to work across the three secondary schools, by offering support to the Heads of Department in raising standards and developing the curriculum. The postholder will initially be based at St Katherine’s School but will also work at Bristol Cathedral Choir School and at Trinity Academy, a new secondary free school which opened this September. 

There is the opportunity to become a Lead Practitioner within the Trust, a Specialist Leader of Education and/or a member of the Senior Leadership Team within one of the schools for the right candidate. 

Applications from existing SLEs are welcome but it is not an essential requirement.

The Mathematics Departments 

Mathematics is one of the most successful subjects within Bristol Cathedral Choir School with regard to both uptake at  A level and the external examination results. The Faculty was judged Outstanding in an Ofsted subject inspection in 2015 and the whole school was judged as “Outstanding” in 2016. The school is part of a Teaching School Alliance with Lead Practitioners and SLEs, including two within mathematics. It is also connected to the Boolean Mathematics Hub and leads on the Boolean post 16 strategy across the region.  

St Katherine’s School have made rapid improvements since the “RI” inspection judgement in 2017. The Mathematics Faculty has a new lead and will be supported by the Trust’s Mathematics Lead Practitioner. Initially we expect the successful candidate to be based within this school up to 0.7 of their time allocation, to support leaders and teachers in developing the curriculum and improving the quality of teaching. 

There will also be an expectation to begin to share best practice across Trust secondary schools where possible.  As this role develops we expect that the successful candidate will provide professional development, training and support for colleagues across the Trust.

The successful candidate will be an ambitious outstanding classroom practitioner with middle leadership experience, who has creative ideas for developing pedagogy within the Mathematics Faculty, the school and across the Trust. You will be expected to teach at all Key Stages and experience of teaching exam courses is a requirement. 

There is an outstanding programme of continuing professional development and in-service training across the Trust including NPQSL and NPQH.

• Knowledgeable and passionate about teaching and learning 
• Respectful towards all students with an unshakeable belief in their entitlement to a high quality education, whatever their circumstances and level of prior attainment
• Committed to raising standards of achievement through innovative but effective practice 
• A proven track record of effective teaching and learning, leading to good outcomes (supported by references) 
• ICT literate 

Desirable:

• Further Degree
• Ability to teach A Level Further Mathematics
• Contribution to co-curricular activities
