Canon Slade School is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher – Teaching & Learning in this very popular and successful Church of England Academy of 1,760 students (335 in the Sixth Form). Our students progress onto world-class universities and institutions to further study or gain apprenticeships and employment. Our aim is to fulfil individual potential and prepare pupils for life in a rapidly changing world by providing an excellent education within a Christian environment.

Canon Slade School is a member of the recently formed Bishop Fraser Trust, a C of E multi academy trust established in 2017. This is an exciting time to join us as it provides a great opportunity to work closely with the other three schools in the MAT - St James’s C of E High School, Bolton St Catherine’s Academy and most recently to join the Trust in January 2022, Bury C of E High School; sharing good practice and building on our ongoing progress.

We are looking to recruit a full time Assistant Headteacher – Teaching & Learning, on a permanent basis, starting at Easter 2022.

The main objectives of this role are:

  • To be the strategic lead for teaching and learning

The post holder will be an individual who:

  • Will lead teaching and learning throughout the school, under the leadership of the Deputy Head for curriculum and standards, securing the highest of standards of pedagogy in all subjects;
  • Administer and oversight of whole school CPD sessions on Wednesdays
  • Lead on ITT/ECT and be the ‘Appropriate Body’ for this
  • Contribute to and develop whole school CPD
  • Lead on new staff induction
  • Lead and coordinate the quality assurance of teaching & learning used in school - to include (not an exhaustive list) book reviews, learning walks, drop-ins etc.
  • Develop our framework for describing and delivering excellent teaching
  • To work with the Deputy Head on identifying school priorities and contribute to the School Development Plan for teaching and learning
  • To work in collaboration with other trust colleagues who hold the responsibility for T & L
  • To coordinate and have oversight of learning beyond the classroom.

Canon Slade School is a mixed 11-18 voluntary aided Church of England secondary school and a member of The Bishop Fraser Multi Academy Trust.  There are around 1700 pupils, including some 350 in the sixth form.

The school has a well-deserved reputation not only for its outstanding academic work but also for Drama, Music,  Sport (Sportsmark  Award and regular success in national competitions) and many other activities.  We are one of only three schools nationally to hold the distinguished Diamond Award for Cultural Diversity from the SSAT.  The school is also a Cross of Nails Centre for Reconciliation in association with Coventry Cathedral.  We have been recognised by Mancheser Metropolitan University School of Education as a Leading Partnership School.
