Job overview

We are looking to appoint an Assistant Housemistress to join our Lower Sixth Team. There are two boarding houses in the Sixth Form, Berwick (Year 12) and Shanley (Year 13), which are home to a mixture of full, weekly and flexi boarders. The Sixth Form House Staff are primarily responsible for the Boarders within each Year group but do have oversight of the whole cohort, as the Sixth Form houses are the main base for all students during the school day.

We are looking for a candidate who is broad-minded, approachable and supportive to our pupils as they navigate Sixth Form life and make decisions regarding their future beyond School. You will be a key role model to our oldest pupils and should inspire them to achieve in all areas. An appreciation of specific Sixth Form processes, such as UCAS applications, is an advantage. As well as excellent communication skills, you should bring strong administrative abilities and a well organised approach to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the House. You will have strong leadership skills with experience of working in a pastoral capacity. High levels of energy and stamina are needed to make the most of this residential post.

Both teaching and non-teaching applications are welcomed; if a teacher, the successful candidate will teach a reduced timetable depending on subject availability. If a non-teacher, you will be expected to contribute to the wider school community in a different capacity.

Woldingham is a happy and successful Catholic boarding and day school for girls aged 11 to 18 and is firmly established as one of the top girls’ independent schools in the UK, outperforming many schools that are far more selective in their admissions process. Central to this achievement is Woldingham’s academic enrichment and extra-curricular programmes, pastoral support and caring community. Close to London, yet in an outstandingly beautiful rural setting, Woldingham has a strong community and culture building on a proud heritage that stretches back 175 years. We are committed to an exciting future that is underpinned by fresh ideas, an innovative spirit and state-of-the-art facilities.

Salary: Competitive. All staff receive free lunches and refreshments. Private, two bedroom accommodation within the boarding house is provided.

Please visit our website to download an application form. Once completed, return it to hr@woldinghamschool.co.uk with a supporting letter.

Closing date: 9am, Sunday 14 June 2020.

Interviews will be held: w/c Monday 15 June 2020.

Due to the post of Assistant Housemistress being within a Senior Girls Boarding School (Ages 11-18) and the duties of this post requiring frequent interaction with young females on a regular basis, the candidate must be of the same gender in order to preserve the decency and privacy of the school girls which is a Genuine Occupational Requirement as outlined in section 7 (2) a of the Employment Rights Act.

Woldingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS report will be required for the successful candidate.

Professional development and staff welfare:

Our professional team of staff is Woldingham’s greatest asset, and we want to ensure that everyone is supported to work in an effective, enjoyable and fulfilling way. Staff Development is a high priority, with induction and mentoring programmes for Newly Qualified Teachers and new colleagues, plus an annual cycle of Personal Professional Development planning for all colleagues.

Staff are welcome to use our range of outstanding facilities including the gym, squash and tennis courts and the swimming pool. Our Staffroom Committee organises regular social events, and individual members of staff have organised yoga classes and reflexology on site.
