Job overview

Tower Hamlets College and Hackney Community College merged on 1 August 2016 to create a dynamic and confident FE provider serving east and central London. Both colleges are Ofsted grade 2 and the combined college will be financially secure with total income in excess of £40m. We have also commenced formal consultation on merging with Redbridge College, another grade 2 college, with a view to completing this during 2017.  This would increase income to over £65m, operating from 5 main sites.

Serving diverse London boroughs the merged College (which is currently consulting on an overarching new Group name) is uniquely located in the heart of an exciting region.

For example, we have built strong relationships with significant organisations in Canary Wharf and on the Olympic Park; in Tech City - the fastest-growing tech-hub in Europe - and within the creative environment of Shoreditch and Hoxton. We are passionate about developing further partnerships and collaborations which create opportunities for local people to get the skills, qualifications and experience they need to succeed in the dynamic sectors across the area.

The learning centres at Tower Hamlets Campus are an integral part of student life and learning. The last inspection graded the college as a 2 with strong student support. Both centres provide students with high quality resources, good study areas with an excellent book collection and IT facilities.

We are looking for a highly skilled individual, with a library or information skills qualification, to support the Head of Learning Resources in providing a high quality service to staff and students. In addition to general day to day duties, you will be responsible for all aspects of collection management including identifying stock gaps and sourcing appropriate material, cataloguing and classification of new stock, and retrospective cataloguing of existing material. Excellent customer service skills and experience of cataloguing and classification and are essential.
