Role Description - Assistant Principal (Behaviour and Pastoral)

Reporting to the School Principal

 TLC is an independent day special school for children and young people with SEMH, ASD and associated learning and communication difficulties. It is part of Melrose Education limited. 

We are looking for an outstanding classroom practitioner and Assistant Principal with a strong focus on developing and delivering Positive Behaviour policy and practice, a proven track record of teaching students with additional needs and experience of preparing pupils for a range of qualifications.

You must be able to demonstrate good organisational skills and have the ability to focus upon the progress of pupils on a whole school basis. Excellent classroom management skills are essential, and you will be able to demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate students.  This is a minimum of 50% teaching post.

Previous experience of SEND would be an advantage. 

You will be working with pupils who are enthusiastic and keen to learn and a dedicated and supportive staff team. This is a very unique and nurturing school, and we would strongly encourage applicants to visit.

Key Responsibilities:

To be jointly responsible for the safeguarding of the school as DDSL.

To support and develop emotional and behavioural support strategies/plans for all learners within the school.

To support the Principal to ensure the school is operating in line with its statutory requirements, and protocols including any safeguarding and child protection legislation, local authority agreements, health and safety regulations and the Independent Schools guidance/Ofsted.

Monitor, support and develop Individual Support Plans for all learners and Risk Assessments for all learners.

To support the principal to ensure the school has a robust and transparent safeguarding and child protection ethos and policy and a robust 'whole school' Positive Behaviour Policy; collaborating to ensure all staff are trained effectively and empowered to deliver the policy.

To have overall responsibility for the development and management of the schools SLT (senior leadership team) and Teaching and Learning staff (Teachers, tutors, HLTA’s and Teaching Assistants) in the areas of learner welfare and behaviour.

To support the emotional management and re-engagement of learners ensuring the appropriate measures are in place to meet each individual child’s needs.

To regularly monitor, review and evaluate the safety, well-being, and education of all learners in the school.

To support in any area that the school’s leadership team identifies as an area for improvement within the school.

To support the creation, implementation and reviewing of the School Improvement Plan.

To undertake the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) responding to all matters relating to safeguarding and child protection including liaison with the LADO and other professional partners, if required.

To support the schools Education Health Care Process, ensuring that all specific needs are met and evidenced within the individual plans.

To ensure all members of staff are supported, safe and their wellbeing needs are met.
