Job overview

Director of mathematics and computing (Assistant Principal)

An opportunity has arisen for an outstanding practitioner to join our senior leadership team and lead our flourishing faculty of mathematics and computing. We are looking for someone with the vision, ambition and commitment to raising standards for all students in this key area of the curriculum.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of leadership, instilling confidence and inspiring excellence in staff and students. The ability to offer A level computing is desirable. King Edward VII Science and Sport College is a forward-thinking 14 – 18 comprehensive school, judged “good” in April 2015. GCSE results in June 2016 were our best ever, exceeding national averages in a range of subjects, including mathematics. Our ICT infrastructure has been completely overhauled, equipping the college with state of the art facilities.

Although leadership of mathematics and computing is a major aspect of the role, the successful candidate can expect significant whole-school responsibility, as befits a member of the senior leadership team.

How to Apply:

Candidates should submit a completed application form together with a letter of application of not more than 3 sides of A4. Your letter of application should state what experience you have that prepares you for this role and how you would promote outstanding teaching and learning within the mathematics and computing faculty and across the college.

The closing date for applications is Friday 21st October 2016
Interviews will be held on Wednesday 26th October 2016

Email applications should be sent to lnewton@kinged.org.uk

Values and vision

King Edward VII Science and Sport College aims to prepare its students for later life, and strives to offer a curriculum that encompasses both academic and practical courses. Teachers ensure their students have the support they need to succeed. With one-on-one mentoring, revision sessions and extracurricular activities such as charity fundraising, overseas trips, drama and music, students are able to hone their skills in a range of areas. Professional work placements are also considered important to the curriculum and development of students.

Sport and science are at the core of the academy, but teachers work hard to enable students to succeed academically in a range of subjects. Alternative courses are available for students who struggle with the standard school curriculum. Additional support is available for reading, writing, communication and maths, from computer-based programmes for reading to online numeracy programmes.
