Job overview

The Flagship School is seeking to appoint an outstanding professional to be the Assistant Principal of a new Special Free School in Hastings.

The school has been founded by a group of committed parents and professionals, working collaboratively together to develop an exciting, innovative and pioneering school in Hastings for children with neuro-diverse profiles and social emotional and mental health needs who have the capacity to meet age related expectations and who have education, health and social care plans.

The school will be located on the site of the former Helenswood Upper School, situated upon the Ridge in Hastings. It will be a new build, with design work for the school currently underway and construction of the site is imminent. Once established there will be 72 places; pupils will range from year 3 to year 11. In the first year there will be 24 pupils.

The school will open in September 2021 and the Principal Designate has been in post from January 2021.

At the Flagship School, we are committed to being a trauma aware, attachment aware and neuro-diverse aware organisation. We aspire to being a pioneering school, drawing on best practice and emerging evidence from psychology, science and educational research to provide an inspiring, integrated and aspirational education for our children. All staff at the school; teachers, therapists and all school staff work will be expected to work together collaboratively to ensure that every aspect of the school day provides opportunities for students to make progress, academically, socially and emotionally.

As Assistant Principal of the school you will deliver inspirational leadership; supporting the Principal to work in partnership with parents and carers and valuing and supporting members of the wider school community. You will model outstanding child-centred care and pedagogy, have sky high expectations of the children, your colleagues and yourself. Have experience leading in a school and experience working with children diagnosed with ASD neuro-diverse children and children with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs.

The Flagship School is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

Applicants will be expected to contact and have a conversation with the Principal, prior to the formal selection process.
