Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious Assistant Principal who is an English specialist responsible for SEND and Personal Development. The UTC opened in September 2014 in a new building which replicates a business environment with state-of –the-art facilities.

This is a role that will allow you to truly be part of something very new; not only a new school, but a new approach to educating 14-19 year olds; which is possibly the most exciting change in the education landscape in decades.

You, along with two further Assistant Principals and the Principal will form the Senior Leadership Team.  You will, therefore, help to shape the whole UTC curriculum, policies and procedures and will work directly with our industry partners of Heathrow Airport, Morgan Sindall, Stantec-PBA, Fujitsu, Babcock Construction and Mace Construction to develop an innovative curriculum which will put the UTC at the forefront of educational change.

All students at UTC Heathrow specialise in either Engineering or Digital areas; at 14 they will also study a broad and balanced curriculum and at Post 16 the curriculum becomes more specialist with A levels in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science being studied alongside their specialist BTEC Level 3 course in Engineering or IT; with a handful of globally recognised qualifications to prepare them for the workplace.  There are currently 193 students on roll; at the UTC but at capacity we will be educating 500 students who will all have a passion for Engineering or Digital; it will be a truly inspirational environment.

UTC Heathrow will, in the words of Michael Gove, ‘inspire and train the next generation of engineers, technicians, craftsmen and industrial innovators’.

If you believe that this is an environment where you can thrive, develop and substantially contribute to an exciting future for UTC Heathrow then you are encouraged to explore further by downloading our information below and contacting the Principal, Wayne Edwards, for a more detailed discussion, if required via finance@heathrow-utc.org or 01923 602130.

Completed application forms and an accompanying supporting letter should be emailed to finance@heathrow-utc.org  to arrive no later than the closing date stated below.

Closing dates: Noon, 25th February 2020.

Interviews will take place on 3rd March 2020.

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

UTC Heathrow is a mixed University Technical College located in Northwood in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It offers its 14-19 year-old students a range of full-time technically-oriented courses with an emphasis on engineering, maths, science and IT. It currently has just under 250 students enrolled but this is expected to expand to its maximum capacity of 400.

UTC Heathrow {originally known as Heathrow Aviation Engineering UTC} opened in 2014 - in response to growing demand for high-calibre professional engineers and technicians, aided by partnerships with Brunel University London, and major local employers British Airways plc and Heathrow Airport.

Students regularly get the chance to work on practical projects with these partners as part of their study, as well as more traditional classroom-based and workshop learning.
