Job overview

The University of Kent Academies Trust (UKAT), is seeking to find a dynamic, charismatic, forward thinking strategic leader, who have the energy, intellectual capacity and determination, to join our Strategic Leadership Team as Assistant Principal for Inclusions, based at Chatham Grammar, with flexibility for working across both of our sites as required.  The successful applicant will lead on the inclusions agenda (including pastoral) and hold the role of SENCO for the Academy.

If you are ambitious, motivated and creative, with a genuine love for transforming lives through education, then we want to hear from you. We are looking for individuals to join our senior team: a leader who is driven by their values to develop a powerful educational offer, someone who sees the link between curriculum and outcomes, someone passionate about culturally enriching our students, someone who respects expertise in the classroom, someone who understands how firm pastoral structures raise young people up, someone who wants to build on the wealth we already have in our staff. Yes, we seek someone who sees the value of our moral mission to educate.

Applicants will have a proven track record, hold the national SEN qualification and be able to evidence successful strategies used for strategic leadership of SEN/Inclusions, responsibility for SEN policy, coordination of safeguarding policies and leadership of staff.

The post will require a resilient individual who will relish a challenge and not be adverse to taking risks. The post holder will also be a key member of the strategic UKAT senior team, leading across Chatham Grammar and Brompton Academy.

Both Chatham Grammar and Brompton Academy have good staff teams who want to be positively led and motivated. The successful applicant will be coming to a supportive learning environment characterised by open, pragmatic leadership and management, secure in the knowledge that they will enjoy the full support and care of colleagues, and our University sponsor.

Ofsted inspection outcomes for both academies were rated as good. Overall, we have a dynamic, innovative team of professional staff who want to make a difference to the lives, aspirations and opportunities of our young people in this socially and economically deprived area.

Slightly further afield (about fifteen minutes by car) the Dockside Outlet centre sports over 40 great retailers, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gyms, hotels and a newly built Odeon Cinema.

The local area boasts great sporting facilities and the nearby Medway Park (10 minute drive) is an established sports centre with three indoor swimming pools, gym, fitness centre, sports hall and squash courts.  Our Lead Sponsor, the University of Kent also offers a professional Sports Therapy Clinic at Medway Park and offers discounted rates to any UKAT staff.

For those that might be interested in discovering a bit more about the local area we are very fortunate to have some beautiful landmarks close by and would encourage you to visit the historical town of Rochester, home of Charles Dickens where you will find museums, stunning historic buildings including the 800+ year old Rochester Castle and Rochester Cathedral together with a wide range of hotels and restaurants, bars, tea shops and a buzzing night life.  Or you might want to visit the more rural and quiet tranquil river village of Upnor where you will find Upnor Castle located on the west bank of the River Medway in Kent.
