Job overview

You will work with the Senior Leadership Group on the strategic development of the academy, with a particular focus on diminishing the difference between underperforming and vulnerable groups and other students. You will make a significant contribution to achieving the key aim of the academy to ‘improve the outcomes for all students’.

General Duties:  

  • To take a lead role in ensuring there is a high standard of behaviour around the academy at all times;
  • To do morning, break, lunch and after school duties, on-call, and isolation senior warnings as required;
  • To deliver assemblies in line with the Values Curriculum;
  • To ensure that any data relevant to responsibilities is checked for accuracy and carefully analysed before actions are put in place, and that all actions are carefully monitored to evaluate the impact; to develop and improve the academy’s data management systems.
  • To support the academy with all key events, including Open Evenings;
  • To respond to parental queries and complaints as directed by the Principal;
  • To line manage wider leaders at the discretion of the Principal;
  • To challenge underperformance within the team, and to take a role in supporting underperforming staff, as required by the Principal;
  • To report to the Principal and Local Accountability Board on areas of responsibility as required.

Duties specific to the role:

  • To take a strategic lead on the academy’s work with disadvantaged students, overseeing the Pupil Premium budget, monitoring the performance of disadvantaged students, and working to embed excellent practice in this area across the academy;
  • To write and review the annual “Diminishing the Difference” action plan, which encompasses Disadvantaged; Below Average Level from Key Stage 2; and SEN, and other groups when required for example ‘boys’.
  • To develop initiatives to support the learning and development of students identified within one of the key groups
  • To be a key member of the RAP group, working closely with the Principal and Vice Principal for Attainment to ensure that excellent outcomes are achieved, and ensuring the intervention programme is focused on diminishing the difference;
  • To oversee the work of all intervention mentors, working closely with the SENCO to ensure that intervention work of Teaching Assistants is carried out in accordance with Academy policy;
  • To develop the “Next Steps” programme, embedding the key principles across the academy;
  • To establish and run Saturday School;
  • To take the strategic lead on the academy’s work with more able students;
  • To ensure the successful running of the Level-Up Programme, through close liaison with the Level-Up coordinators and ATLs for English and Maths.
  • To line manage the work of the SENCO, particularly ensuring that the progress of SEND students is closely monitored and that available resources are effectively used to increase the progress of underperforming students.
  • To support the academy initiatives around developing resilience and a Growth Mindset.
  • To keep up to date with relevant research around key groups particularly disadvantaged students and influence whole academy strategy accordingly.
