Job overview

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community.  We were proud to be judged 'good' by Ofsted in all areas in February 2016.  Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION and AMBITION.  We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Kitemark.

Are you a dedicated leader looking to make a difference to young people’s lives?

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Principal - SENCO, to join the Leadership team at Northampton Academy. You will lead a hard working SEN department with an Assistant SENCO, Inclusion Manager and Learning Support Assistants to help support and ensure outstanding progress for all our SEN students in the school. The excellent work that our SEN team does is commented on frequently by parents and visitors.

You will have a close eye to detail and be able to manage a large and varied workload, whilst retaining the highest possible standards. You will be incredibly tenacious with a high level of emotional intelligence.

The leadership of the Academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons.  To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons.  If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf.  Teachers at the Academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here.  In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

No unannounced observations
No lesson grading
3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally

Northampton Academy is committed to equal opportunities and to the protection and safety of all students and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share these commitments.

United Learning

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could.

Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
