Trinity Academy Cathedral

Assistant Principal: Personal Development & Attendance

Start date: September 2023

Salary: L12-L18

Starting salary negotiable

Trinity Academy Cathedral is looking for a talented and ambitious leader to take on the exciting and pivotal role of AP: Personal Development and Attendance.  Cathedral is a school that believes “everything is possible” having been awarded SIAMS Excellent in 2020 followed by Ofsted outstanding in 2022.  As a beacon of excellence, our Church of England academy continues to refine and develop its practice, as well as working with the wider group of schools within the trust, to achieve a truly world class education for our young people.  Could you be the next person to join our passionate and determined team on this rewarding journey?

The successful candidate would hold the portfolio and strategic oversight for personal development across the academy, also leading on attendance, working with our already successful team of staff to further enhance and develop our provision.  Our students benefit greatly from the breadth of opportunity and experience offered by our curriculum, and personal development is an integral layer of our provision.  As a key part of our curriculum, it is constantly evolving to ensure it is highly relevant and impactful.  We are looking for an exceptional, inspiring individual to take the lead on this area, shaping and refining the character journey for our young people.  Additionally, the post-holder will lead on attendance.  Clearly a key factor of the success of any school, attendance remains a constant priority and provides an opportunity for leadership with significant impact.

Trinity MAT is a high-performing and successful cross-phase trust.  The trust also collaborates extensively with schools across the country through the Trinity Institute of Education,  West Yorkshire Maths Hub and White Rose Maths initiatives.  Each of the trust’s secondary schools consistently achieve academic results which place them in the top 10% of schools nationally.  The successful candidate will receive excellent support from the Principal and other MAT colleagues.

This role will appeal to several prospective candidates: a successful middle leader seeking progression and their next challenge, or a current assistant principal looking to broaden their experience in a new setting.  If you are a leader in a secondary setting, with the vision and drive to support us in our journey beyond outstanding, this role offers a fantastic opportunity.  You would work alongside a talented and successful team and play a pivotal role in our next steps.  You must be fully committed to optimising the opportunities that are available to children and young people, secure in the knowledge that you will be joining an ambitious forward-thinking academy trust.  The successful candidate must be passionate about improving students’ life chances through the provision of the highest quality of education and committed to achieving excellent results for the students.  You must have a strong work ethic and high expectations of yourself and others and have the ability to lead staff and students in realising those expectations.

Please note that whilst we are looking for a candidate at AP level initially, if you are an AP currently, with significant experience in the identified areas and looking for a VP role, please do make contact for a discussion about potential opportunities.

We will be running a recruitment evening on Wednesday 12th April 2023 from 4:00pm where you will be able to hear more about our inspirational school, meet members of the team and learn more about the roles available.  To book your place or ask for an alternative time to visit, please sign up here Recruitment Event registration form

For a confidential discussion about the role or to make an application, please contact our Principal, Anna Gillinder agillinder@cathedral.trinitymat.org

Closing date – Monday 24th April 9am (although please note the information below)

Suitable candidates will be interviewed promptly upon receipt of application, the closing date will be brought forward in the event that the post is filled.

Trinity Academy Cathedral has been working in partnership with Trinity MAT since 2016, formally joining the Trust in March 2018. The progress made has been outstanding - a real success story. In 2016 the Academy were 14th out of 18 secondary schools (in Wakefield LA) in terms of academic progress and also undersubscribed.  Trinity Academy Cathedral is now the highest performing academy in Wakefield and has been in the top 10% nationally for the last two years. In 2019 we were awarded the TES Secondary School of the Year. In 2022 were were awarded 'Outstanding' following an Ofsted inspection

At Cathedral we teach our students to embrace our vision statement ‘Everything is possible’. We encourage students to be ambitious and inquisitive in their learning, understanding that resilience is a key quality to develop.

We are extremely privileged to have two pathways. The first is our broad and balanced Cathedral main pathway which most students follow. However, we also have our CAPA Juniors programme. This enables young people with a real desire to pursue a career in the Arts to gain a solid grounding in this field whilst still receiving a formal education.

As a result of our achievements and out approach to learning, it is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Cathedral.   We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Trinity Institute of Education School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Cathedral is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
