Job overview

Woodhouse College is one of the top-performing sixth form colleges in England, with large numbers of students each year progressing to Oxbridge, medical schools and leading research-intensive universities. It is academic in focus and appeals to students who are ambitious and, in the main, intend to go on to higher education. Being 16–19 only, it has the characteristics of a very large school sixth form, yet it has scale, diversity and a liberal, tolerant ethos often associated with colleges.

The College:

  • Is one of the most successful, academic SFCs in England
  • Has excellent staff, management and governance
  • Enjoys a well-deserved reputation and is over-subscribed
  • Benefits from a sound financial position
  • Has well-maintained buildings on a pleasant campus in North Finchley
  • Is secular, diverse and committed to equality and inclusion
  • Has an outstanding pastoral support and extra-curricular offer
  • Is focused on continuously improving

Woodhouse College converted to academy status in 2021 in order to open a maths school. In doing so, it formed a strategic partnership with Imperial College London to form the Frontier Learning Trust. The Trust is small, comprising just two organisations: the College and the Imperial College London Maths School, which opened in September 2023.

The purpose of this new SLT post is to promote and facilitate the personal development students undergo as individuals at the same time as they build their academic skills as A level students. Both personal and academic development are important for students’ progression, whether it be for accessing career opportunities or building their future lives. We are seeking an outstanding educational professional to champion this work so that developing personally as well as academically is a conscious process for all students.

In return, the following benefits are available:

  • Very strong learning ethos
  • Positive cultural organisation
  • Excellent pension schemes (TP and LGPS)
  • Generous holiday entitlement (support staff)
  • Option to apply to sabbatical schemes
  • Internal CPD programme
  • Well-resourced library for staff personal use
  • Bike scheme
  • Free eye tests and contribution towards glasses
  • Free flu jabs
  • Workstation assessments
  • Free parking on site
  • Employee Assistance Programme – free counselling and support and guidance on a wide range of topics
  • Excellent sports facilities for staff badminton, football and table tennis

Potential candidates wishing to discuss the post confidentially are invited to contact Lydia Antoni, HR Manager, on personnel@woodhouse.ac.uk or on 020 8492 8228 to arrange a call with Sugra Alibhai, Principal.

For more information and to apply, please visit www.woodhouse.ac.uk

Closing date: 9.00 am on Monday 29 April 2024.

Longlisted candidates will be invited to attend part one of the interview process on Wednesday 8 May 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the final day on Monday 13 May 2024.

The College is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from black and minority ethnic groups, who are currently underrepresented. The College is committed to safeguarding and the promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
