Job overview

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified, talented teacher and leader to join our senior leadership team in September 2016.

We celebrated our first GCSE results in 2015 where we were among the top performing schools in the area. We have recently had a successful Ofsted Inspection and are now looking to further grow and progress. As we move into the next phase of development, we are looking to add leadership capacity within the school – this is a key appointment for us and a chance to really make an impact within an already successful team.

At BFS we believe in strong discipline and an academically rigorous, knowledge driven curriculum for all of our students, regardless of their background. As a result, teachers at our school enjoy impeccable behaviour in lessons and hardworking, motivated students. We are looking for someone who has the same high standards and ethos. We expect a lot of our students, but we support them fully and enjoy a positive, family environment.

We don’t believe in lengthy meetings, excessive planning and marking or unnecessary paperwork to tick boxes, we just ask our teachers to teach well every day. This goes for our senior leaders who all teach classes of their own. This role carries a reduced teaching load and the ability to teach a core subject or History would be an advantage although we welcome applicants from teachers of all subjects; we are looking for the right person to lead within our school.

If our approach and our values of Respect, Honesty and High Expectations match yours, and you have ambitions to be a senior leader in the near future, then we welcome visits to the school at any time and would encourage you to apply.

This position would suit either an experienced middle leader or a current senior leader looking for a new challenge.

Visits are strongly encouraged, to arrange a tour please call 01234 332290. To download an application pack and a job description please visit our website www.bedfordfreeschool.co.uk  or email recruitment@bedfordfreeschool.co.uk

Closing date: Midday – Monday 16th May 2016

We reserve the right to close posts early should sufficient applications be received.

Interviews: Tuesday and Wednesday 24 & 25 May 2016 or within 10 days of closing date

Small school, big curriculum, infinite possibilities.

We are a small school, where teachers and students know each other and look out for each other. Safeguarding children enrolled at the School is of paramount importance, and we are fully committed to the protection and safe care of our students. The successful applicant will be required to undertake appropriate checks as well as providing proof of your right to work in the UK.

BFS opened in September 2012 and is now heavily oversubscribed, reflecting our established popularity and reputation with local parents. We have now celebrated three sets of solid GCSE results that put us top in Bedford and amongst the best in the region. In the coming years we aim to become one of the top performing schools in the country and as we continue to develop, we are looking to recruit excellent teachers who share our values and beliefs. We now wish to appoint more outstanding professionals to join our team.

Our staff will:-

  • share our values of respect, honesty and high expectations
  • believe that every student, regardless of background  is capable of the highest level of behaviour and academic success
  • be expert in their subject

In return we offer well-motivated, polite and hard working pupils and the opportunity to join an exciting school as it begins its next phase of development. We believe in 'growing our own' staff and as such, there are always opportunities for further training and career progression. We have a reasonable approach to workload with our 'no marking' feedback policy, no requirement for formal lesson plans, and a large amount of professional autonomy.
