Job overview

Assistant Principal With Responsibility as Head of Maths and Digital Learner Lead

L8-L12 (£46,335 - £51,127) Leadership scale point negotiated on appointment.

Required for 1st September 2017 or sooner if possible

This is a really exciting time to be joining Newcastle Academy following the recent appointment of a new Principal and the strengthening of our Senior Leadership Team. We are introducing new initiatives as we continue our journey of excellence, and we are now looking to appoint a hard-working, inspirational and committed individual for this important strategic role, to support the Senior Team and take delegated responsibility to manage the direction of the Academy.

In addition, you will have responsibility to plan, lead, develop and evaluate work, to enhance quality across the Academy as a whole, and specifically within the Faculty of Maths.  As Digital Learner Lead you will take responsibility for the development of digital learning approaches and mechanisms to support assessment, target setting and innovation

The Assistant Principal will be:

• Able to lead change and achieve measurable improvements

• A team motivator – working through people to clear accountability frameworks

• Committed to ensuring that students reach the highest possible standards in their learning and are prepared for further education, employment or training

• An expert practitioner capable of delivering outstanding learning and teaching and of developing other staff to do the same, especially within the Faculty of Maths • Have excellent leadership, management and communication skills and an ambition to drive the school forward as part of the Senior Team

• Committed to the development of joint working in leadership across our Federation and Trust.

Newcastle Academy is a partner in a federation with Clayton Hall Academy under the leadership of United Endeavour Multi Academy Trust. The academies work very closely and are committed to contributing their best practice to help improvement across both settings. Ofsted judged both academies to be ‘good’ at last inspection, but Newcastle Academy has a challenge to improve progress and attainment, since being classed as a ‘coasting school’. Newcastle Academy is supported by committed and hard-working staff across the federation, and the successful candidate will demonstrate a passion to ensure that all students and staff excel.   United Endeavour Trust encourages collaboration and support, and we can offer excellent career prospects and personal development opportunities.

United Endeavour Trust and its schools are located in good quality residential suburbs of Newcastle-under-Lyme, near the Cheshire border just west of The Potteries.  This central location has excellent road and rail links to all major conurbations and is surrounded by stunning countryside and industrial heritage. House prices are amongst the most competitive in the UK, ranging from traditional terraced town housing and modern estate developments on regenerated sites, to established suburbs and quaint country villages.

CLOSING DATE: 9am Wednesday 26 April 2017 INTERVIEWS:  Thursday 4 May 2017

Due to the Easter break interested applicants can make an appointment to view the academy on Wednesday 19th April at 10.00am – please contact Sarah Rowell email sarah.rowell@uetrust.org or Tel: 01782 973017.

Newcastle Academy in October 2015 converted to become an academy within the  United Endeavour Trust. Our external Trust Partners include Keele University, Newcastle-under-Lyme College and Stoke City Community Trust, and we are actively looking to expand under the leadership of our Chief Executive Officer and MAT Board.

This close collaboration ensures we can offer staff and students much more than any single school: expanded choices and cross federation courses at Key Stage 4, additional extra-curricular provision and enrichment activities, access to training support and further opportunities and more specialist facilities.

We believe this collaborative approach supports staff in aspiring to our ambitious plans for the future. Students are exposed to wider experiences and staff have stronger networks. Best practice and new initiatives are communicated within the federation, and some of the challenges faced by DfE changes to curriculum and accountability can be addressed through internal systems and mutual working.
