Job overview

Assistant Rector – Pastoral

Due to the promotion of the current incumbent, Dollar Academy, one of Scotland’s leading independent day and boarding schools, is looking to appoint an exceptional Assistant Rector to join our senior management team.

This role will focus primarily on matters which relate to the pastoral care of pupils. We are seeking an enthusiastic, academically well-qualified, experienced and forward-looking candidate who is able to demonstrate initiative and an insightful approach to the development of school-wide pastoral care.

There is an expectation of involvement in the all-through planning and leadership of the school and candidates applying should have a strong teaching portfolio, together with relevant management experience.

The post might suit a candidate with either Head of Department/Head of Year experience, or a current senior management team member at another school.

The closing date for applications is Friday 17th January 2020.

Applicants should complete the Academy’s Teaching Staff Application Form (downloadable from the Academy’s website www.dollaracademy.org.uk/vacancies) and should provide a covering letter.  These should be posted to Julie Duncan, Human Resources Manager, Dollar Academy, Dollar, FK14 7DU, Clackmannanshire, Scotland or emailed to recruitment@dollaracademy.org.uk

We are also recruiting for an Assistant Rector – Academic.  Candidates should indicate if they feel they have the appropriate skills set and wish to be considered for both posts.  Please advise on application.

About Dollar Academy

Dollar Academy was founded in 1818 as the UK’s first co-educational day and boarding school and has been at the heart of Scotland’s educational development for 200 years. The school is the Sunday Times Scottish Independent School of the Year 2018.

Dollar has over 1250 pupils aged 5-18, of whom approximately 75 are boarders. The school’s extensive 70 acre campus is set in a landscape of extraordinary natural beauty at the foot of the Ochil Hills in Central Scotland and is within easy reach of both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh airport is conveniently situated and can be reached in 45 minutes.

Dollar is distinguished by its excellence in pastoral care, co-curricular provision and classroom teaching.

Enjoyment of learning lies at the heart of this school and the aim is for all pupils to gain satisfaction from a real commitment to study and participation in the great range of sporting, art and cultural activities on offer.

Dollar pupils undertake internationally recognised SQA examination courses and, in a typical year, over 65% of exam results are at Grade A. Although firmly grounded in the values of Scottish education, Dollar takes a deliberately international approach and the diverse boarding community is at the heart of school life.
