You will work closely with the SENCO to ensure pupils with SEND, including those with EHCPs, emerging needs, complex profiles, EAL and other vulnerable groups, receive high‑quality support that enables them to thrive.

The Elizabethan Academy is a vibrant, innovative 11–18 school dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning - and to the wellbeing of our staff. We recognise that staff are our most important asset and will always endeavour to protect their wellbeing whilst supporting them with high quality training and development opportunities. We provide a supportive, no‐fear culture that celebrates innovation, individuality, and inclusivity. Our three-year strategic plan, available on our website, highlights our commitment to workload reduction, work–life balance, and ongoing professional development through extensive internal and external CPD opportunities. We operate on the assumption that all staff have, or are developing their expertise – and that good teaching can take many forms. We trust that our staff are always wanting to do their best. Our open-door approach focuses on typicality, with QA being developmental and with an appropriate balance of challenge and support.
Our school is situated in the heart of Retford, North Nottinghamshire, our school enjoys an ideal location in a dynamic market town. Retford combines the warmth of a close-knit community with a bustling town centre and attractive rural surroundings. With excellent local amenities, diverse housing options, and continued growth in both housing and business sectors, Retford offers an exceptional environment in which to live and work. The town also benefits from convenient links via the A1 and M1, with cities like Sheffield, Lincoln, Doncaster, Leeds, and Nottingham — and the stunning landscapes of the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales — within easy reach.
The Academy currently has 1,200 students, drawing from local feeder schools and beyond. Our growing popularity in recent years has led to a surge in applications, making us a top choice for parents. Most notably, our own staff trust us with their children’s education, a testament to our school’s excellence. We are proud to be a stand-alone Academy and in 2024 the school was graded “Good” by OFSTED.
Our staff, along with our Year 7-11 and Sixth Form students, enjoy purpose-built accommodation which, as of 2021, now includes our 9-metre-high climbing wall. This was thanks to funding from Sport England. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enrich the curriculum for our students. Our Wednesday afternoons are quite unique with both staff and students enjoying a variety of enrichment activities from Latin to cadets to mindfulness. Our students then leave early and staff benefit from an hour of CPD each week which includes bespoke delivered training, coaching time, workshops and time within departments. We also have excellent links with the business community and are well supported by local companies and community groups.
Our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience are integral to our ethos. We expect and empower our students to become independent learners, effective team players, and resilient individuals. Likewise, we support our staff with a thorough induction programme and continuous opportunities for professional and personal growth.
