HOLLIS ACADEMY

Saltersgill Avenue

Middlesbrough

Assistant Vice Principal – Mathematics

Leadership Scale: L5 – L8 (£46,566 - £50,151)

Hollis Academy is situated in Middlesbrough and provides for up to 85 students aged 11 to 16 years who have SEMH as their identified primary need. Hollis Academy joined the Trust in October 2016 as a sponsor academy. Since that time, rapid progress towards improvement has been realised due to the commitment of the staff team, the positive leadership of the Principal and the robust support from the Trust’s Executive Principal.

Hollis Academy is looking to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking Assistant Vice Principal to help shape and develop our Mathematics offer to all students. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring leader - Mathematics is seen as crucial elements of our students’ education, with the aim of ensuring our students have all of the necessary skills for a fulfilling life.

The successful candidate will need to have a strong understanding of the  Mathematics  curriculum as well as how different  strategies can be implemented across the Academy to ensure a consistent approach. As an academy that caters for students with SEMH, our students are working at varying levels.  Many students in KS3 and KS4 follow a curriculum that leads to external qualifications that include Entry Level, Functional Skills and GCSE.

The right candidate will need to be an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher, with high expectations of our children and themselves and have the ability, perseverance and resilience to be an outstanding practitioner.

As well as excellent curriculum knowledge, good communication and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will have proven ability to lead and manage, and work as part of a team of teachers and support staff. Previous experience of working with students with SEMH would be desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be joining a Multi Academy Trust that is moving forwards and is striving for excellence. We offer a collaborative and supportive environment where staff are valued and nurtured, as demonstrated by our Investors in People Gold Award status. Horizons Specialist Academy Trust consists of Abbey Hill Academy, Westlands Academy, Green Gates Academy, Hollis Academy, Mo Mowlam Academy and Archway Academy. The academies serve a population in excess of 700 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties.

A visit to the academy would be highly recommended. To arrange this

please contact Mrs Julie Povall on julie.povall@horizonstrust.org.uk

Application forms and further information is available on the Horizons Trust website: https://www.horizonstrust.org.uk/jobs

Completed application forms should be returned by 12 noon on Friday, 9th December to Julie Povall, HR Clerk, Abbey Hill Academy, Ketton Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS19 8BU or by email to julie.povall@horizonstrust.org.uk.

Horizons Specialist Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of our recruitment process, online searches may be conducted. Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and appropriate references.
