The Academy

Rye Hills is a popular 11-16 comprehensive school, with approximately 930 students on roll.  The school is situated on an attractive, modern site on the outskirts of Redcar, in the North East of England. 

Rye Hills Academy is a member of Nunthorpe Multi Academy Trust (NMAT).

Context of The Post

In March 2019, the DfE and the government set out plans to support up to thirty schools through the Opportunity North East (ONE) initiative – a multi-million pound Government-led programme to improve social mobility and raise aspirations for children. Rye Hills is one of the academies in the programme and as part of our work we are seeking to appoint an additional outstanding leader, with a proven track record as a middle leader or at senior leadership level to add capacity to our existing leadership team for a year to quality assure and monitor the compliance of the strategies we are implementing. Our academy is unique in its combination of students (10.8% SEND (49EHCPs), 36% disadvantaged students and high levels of prior attainment at Key Stage 2. 

A strength in dealing with more challenging students who lack aspiration and need support to modify their behaviour and attitude to learning would be beneficial together with a clear understanding of the needs of a wide variety of special educational needs. 

The role will require you to lead and monitor quality assurance and compliance across the academy working to embed the academy’s improvement objectives. There will also be a requirement to coordinate and lead on aspects of the One Vision programme and ensure that the progress of implementation is shared with the other members of the Senior Leadership Team. 

You will be expected to:

• Conduct regular quality assurance of all aspects of the academy: curriculum implementation, lesson structures, students’ books, planning, implementation of SEND strategies, careers education, behaviour management and attendance.

• Communicate the findings of quality assurance and actions for improvement with staff, Middle Leaders, Senior Leaders and Governors.

• Develop practice and compliance following quality assurance.

• Contribute to the development of, progress towards and completion of the academy’s self-evaluation and improvement plan.

There will also be an expectation that you add some additionally to our teaching.
