Purpose of Job

  • Responsible for coordination across the HIMS Education Team on the development of Bilingual Education in HILA 
  • To work with the Heads and the education team to develop a culture of continuous improvement across AISL schools.
  • Support Chinese Principals in securing compliance 
  • Provide guidance and support to HILA school teams in delivering the AISL bilingual educational model and for securing educational excellence   
  • Support the coordination and successful delivery of the IGCSE Chinese in HILA and HIS schools. This work is to cover:
  1. Curriculum development and research into best practice
  2. Quality of teaching
  3. Student outcomes and learning effectiveness
  4. Mapping of IGCSE requirements and standards with those of the Chinese National Curriculum
  5. Promoting the integration of the Chinese and English curriculum domains
  6. Supporting with curriculum evaluation and development in HILA schools


Duties and Responsibilities

Curriculum Development

  • To set up shared online resources for HILA teachers and develop the strengths of teachers in individual schools and share expertise between HILA.
  • To keep all HILA schools updated with current practice and provide relevant curriculum updates.
  • To assist with developing strategies for the delivery of the curriculum, linked with staffing and timetable planning, liaising closely with the Heads, the Chinese Education team and HR team.
  • To support the Education team with specific group-wide initiatives across HILA.
  • Support the overall development plan for IGCSE-based Chinese curriculum standards including Chinese as First Language (0509), Chinese as Second Language (0523), Chinese as Foreign Language (0547) for HISs and HILAs.
  • To assist the schools in their development of the scheme of work to support the delivery of the HILA curriculum
  • To remain up-to-date and duly formulate policies in response to the new movements, trends and achievements of IGCSE based Chinese education
  • To refine teaching materials and resources to merge IGCSE-based Chinese curriculum standards and Chinese National Curriculum standards and ensure the two fit well together so as to achieve mutual benefits and enhancement of Chinese learning in our schools.
  • To work with the academic teams in our schools to ensure sharing of pedagogical practice across the Chinese and English teaching programmes and leverage the advantages and strengths of English teaching for Chinese teaching and vice versa.
  • To work with academic teams in HILA schools to promote integration of Chinese and English curriculum domains, including assisting with curriculum evaluation and development


Quality of Teaching

  • To work with the Heads, Chinese Principal and the Chinese Education team to develop group wide pedagogical principles which are shared across HILA schools, using educational research to inform and guide staff teams in the implementation of these high-quality pedagogical principles.
  • To constantly innovate in pedagogical practice using research methods and bringing extensive expertise from previous settings.
  • To lead, establish, cascade and embed creative, responsive and effective approaches to learning and teaching in a bilingual context.
  • To lead on the alignment of curriculum design and development across the group to provide students with an effective programme of bilingual learning, identifying and sharing best practice across the schools and ensuring local flexibility in delivery.
  • To work with the Heads, Chinese Principal and the Chinese Education team to monitor the implementation of the HILA curriculum; to review and evaluate the model and its effectiveness in delivering a unique and excellent bilingual education; and to make recommendations for further developments.
  • To develop and manage a quality review framework to evaluate the academic work of each school regularly and support continued school development, reporting to the Board on issues raised and proposals to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • To support school self-evaluation and AISL QA framework.
  • To be responsible for drawing up advice and guidance for IGCSE-based Chinese teaching methodologies and approaches, including   training requirements and support for the delivery of this training.  
  • To provide guidance and research on pedagogy to ensure that teaching is effective
  • To support teachers in improving teaching methodologies and adapting them for the schools so as to have greater impact on student learning and subsequently enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching


Student Outcomes and Learning 

  • To develop robust data management systems which allow quantitative and qualitative evaluation of school and group level data to inform knowledge of the group’s performance as well as that of its constituent schools’ strengths and areas for development and to use this data to drive continued improvement.
  • To ensure that AISL systems give real-time understanding of performance, provide assurance on outcomes and the quality and consistency of practice, and allow for rapid and targeted response to emerging concerns.
  • To coordinate and ensure routine assessments are carried out in HILA
  • To proactively push ahead with new ways of learning, including but not limited to research-based, independent and collaborative learning in support of enhanced student outcomes
  • To provide guidance to teachers in participation in competitions and contests across the grades and support teachers to attain best-in-class performances of no less than top 10%
  • Coordinate recording, reporting and utilisation of assessment data coupled with leading moderation activity


Communication Coordination 

  • To be responsible for coordinating communication between the HIMS Education Team, HIMS senior staff and HILA leaders


External Engagement

  • To be a compelling ambassador for AISL and play a key role in building the organisation’s reputation
