Job overview

We seek suitable candidates for a full-time Associate Lectureship in Mathematics. The post is an open-ended, teaching-focused post.

You will play a crucial role in the teaching and administration of the department’s programmes. In particular, you will be running our new Foundation Year in Mathematics. You will design and deliver lectures and problem-solving classes, either independently or in collaboration with others. You will also prepare course materials such as handouts, example sheets and assessments, giving timely and constructive feedback to students. Administration will entail tasks associated with the management of our programmes, such as dealing with admissions and progression, and supporting students in their studies. You will also support the department’s initiatives towards enhancement of blended learning, using online delivery of teaching materials and video-recorded lectures.

You should have a strong track record of teaching mathematics at level 3 and/or 4, either in an HE or FE context, and a sound understanding of core material in undergraduate mathematics programmes. You will have a good first degree in mathematics or a closely allied area, and ideally a postgraduate qualification in mathematics. We anticipate that some applicants may have completed, or be in the process of completing, a PhD. However you are not required to be an active researcher, as your role will be focused on teaching and programme management.

Prior teaching experience, and demonstrable success in communicating and interacting with students, is absolutely crucial. Successful applicants will also have a proven ability to work effectively both independently and with colleagues.
