Job overview

The Athletic and Co-curricular Director, reports to the MHS Principal and manages the school’s co-curricular programmes, including competitive interschool sport for Grades 5-12, the after-school Extra-Curricular Activities Programme, as well as the major Arts show-case events and the Private Music Programme.

Sport leadership 

  • Lead, develop and innovate competitive sports at St John’s 
  • Maintain and update as needed an athletic policy manual that provides consistent and common-sense guidance for the programme. 
  • Schedule all interschool games and matches and manage their successful and timely communication to the community. 
  • Supervise all home athletic events 
  • Make arrangements for the preparation of all fields and gyms. 
  • Make arrangements for the assignment of and payment of referees, umpires, timers and scorekeepers. 
  • Make arrangements for the coordinated and secure use of locker rooms. 
  • Make arrangements for the housing of visiting teams. 
  • Respond to any emergencies such as injuries. 
  • Diplomatically handle any breaches of ethical conduct by coaches, athletes, parents, or spectators. 
  • Employ, supervise and evaluate all coaches in collaboration with the MHS principal and school director. 
  • Prepare and manage the athletic budget to ensure fiscal responsibility. 
  • Order and supervise the use of all equipment and supplies. 
  • Establish and maintain a cycle for uniform replacement. 
  • Work with the Business Office to facilitate the payment of travel expenses by parents. 
  • Maintain administrative files for all athletic correspondence, performance records, letter winners and award winners to include ordering and displaying ISST championship banners. 
  • Represent St. John’s at ISST AD meetings. 
  • Supervise the use and maintenance of the sports complex to include the arena, hall, foyer, weight room, dressing rooms, and playing fields. 
  • Teach the equivalent of a 33 percent instructional load.

Procedural Duties: 

  • Liaise with the MHS leadership team in order to ensure the existence of a proper balance between the academic and athletic programmes. 
  • Coordinate all practice schedules in order to ensure efficient and equitable use of facilities. 
  • Coordinate all away athletic events. 
  • Make transportation arrangements in a cost-effective manner. 
  • Communicate with host schools to ensure proper housing of STJ students. 
  • Investigate and implement corrective action whenever concerns arise during travel. 
  • Schedule and assist coaches in arranging award assemblies. 
  • Liaise with the yearbook coordinator to edit the sports content for accuracy and appropriateness. 
  • Act as the liaison with the Booster Club. 
  • Carry out any other responsibilities that are delegated by the Head of School.

Extra-Curricular activities and Instrumental Music Programme Leadership 

  • Ensure a wide-range of suitable activities are available to our students 
  • Liaise with the Head of Music regarding recruitment and evaluation of instructors 
  • Oversee the Advertising of the programme and enrolment  
  • Oversee billing to families 
  • Conduct a review at the end of each ECA season 
  • Ensure quality control of the programme

Co-curricular Arts leadership: 

  • Ensure the scheduling of rehearsals and performances are correctly calendared and strategically placed in relation to other major events 
  • Ensure a complete budget forecast is submitted to the Principal(s) and the Business Office. 
  • Advise regarding whole school logistics in the preparation and lead up to each major show. 
  • Coordinate and liaise with stakeholders to ensure a good balance of co-curricular events throughout the year


Initial interviews will be conducted online. Where possible, subsequent interviews will be conducted in person at the Inspired Education fair in London on January 8th and 9th or subsequently at St John's.
