Job overview
Sherborne Schools Group is seeking an ambitious, energetic and highly motivated Athletic Development Intern to join our thriving Sports Department for the 2026–27 academic year. This is an outstanding opportunity for a sandwich placement student or postgraduate looking to gain hands-on, high-level experience within one of the UK’s leading independent school sports environments. Working alongside experienced Directors of Sport, coaching staff and sport science practitioners, you will play a key role in supporting athletic development across the school’s performance programmes, including strength and conditioning and athlete monitoring, while also contributing to the coaching of Rugby, Hockey, Football and/or Cricket across training and fixtures. You will gain meaningful responsibility, broad exposure and professional development within a supportive and high-performance setting, including a full academic year embedded in a professional sports department, exposure to elite school sport and external performance pathways, and mentorship from experienced coaches and sport science staff, providing a strong foundation for careers in athletic development, coaching, sport science or teaching. The role is based primarily at Sherborne Boys School, with opportunities to gain experience across the wider Sherborne Schools Group depending on your interests and availability, and is a fixed-term internship for one academic year. The position includes free shared accommodation in the historic town of Sherborne along with all meals during term time, making this an exceptional opportunity for graduates seeking meaningful experience in a collegiate and supportive school community without the burden of high living costs.
