Job overview

Supporting the Scottish Attainment Challenge

Do you want to help to lead the breakthrough for children living in poverty in Scotland?

Do you want to play a key role in achieving the Government's defining mission to close the poverty-related attainment gap?

The Scottish Attainment Challenge is the top priority in Scottish education. We need dynamic educationalists to join our national team to achieve a breakthrough for the children in Scotland who live in poverty. We want to work together with schools, local authorities and partners to interrupt the cycle of deprivation and the impact it has on children's progress, attainment and life chances. The scale of the Scottish Attainment Challenge is rapidly increasing, with the recent launch of the £120 million Pupil Equity Fund. This takes the total additional funding available for this programme to £750 million across this Parliamentary term.

To help us drive this ambition forward we have a team of Attainment Advisors who work collaboratively alongside local authority staff and will be based in a locality to support and challenge progress in schools. This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated senior leaders, with a proven track record in leading improvement in education, to become part of this dynamic team who are helping to lead the Scottish Attainment Challenge.

We are offering these positions as secondments on a full-time basis for 23 months.

You will need to establish and maintain strong working relationships with national colleagues, senior local authority staff, quality improvement officers, school leaders, teachers and partner agencies. You will support schools and practitioners to make best use of information, research and data. You will need to support, influence and, when appropriate, challenge leaders efforts to reduce the gap. You will be required to share knowledge and learning on key interventions through various networks and have a willingness to collaborate using digital channels. This will help inform our national work to promote and spread good practice across Scotland.

Education Scotland is Scotland's national improvement agency for education. Our role is to promote innovation and change in the education system, from the early years to adult learning and we are committed to embedding our values of excellence, creativity, integrity and respect in everything we do.

Please contact Graeme Logan on 0131 244 4313 if you have any questions regarding the position.

Transforming Lives Through Learning

Education Scotland was created on 1st July 2011, bringing together the work of Learning and Teaching Scotland, Her
Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education for Scotland, the National CPD team and the Scottish Government’s Positive Behaviour Team. It was established as the Scottish Government’s integrated national development and improvement agency for education, providing support and challenge right through from the early years to adult learning.

Working with the education community, Education Scotland aims to allow each learner and practitioner within Scotland to recognise their full potential by giving them the tools to allow them to grow and develop as individuals throughout their journey within education and beyond.

Education Scotland is here to make an impact; to support learning and teaching throughout the country and develop the curriculum for education to enable us, as a nation, to transform lives through learning.

With several offices based around Scotland, the organisation is made up of professionals with a passion for making a difference and shaping the future of Education; many of whom are seconded directly from schools and other partner organisations. Secondees who work as part of the team joined Education Scotland to help us make a difference and shape the future of learning and teaching.

At Education Scotland we believe it's people who make a difference and your contribution would be welcomed.
