About us and the role

We are seeking to appoint an Attendance and Welfare Officer to join our school in Frome. The successful individual will provide an effective and efficient student support service, with minimal supervision, focusing on attendance and punctuality.

Avanti Park School is a Middle deemed Primary school with pupils from Reception to Year 8.  The Avanti Schools Trust took over the school in November 2019 and the school has improved rapidly since this take over.

The staff at Avanti Park School are passionate about the school and are relentlessly focused on improving the achievement and opportunities for all the students. All staff that work at the school will need to subscribe to our ethos and values and seek to improve and develop their own practice and performance for the benefit of our students.

What will you do?

To monitor whole school attendance data and advise key staff of trends, concerns and referrals.

To make arrangements for, and to lead on, meetings with regards to individual pupils experiencing attendance issues whilst adhering to the requirements of the Local Authority's formal processes (e.g. Fixed Penalty Notices; parenting contracts, stage 3 referrals etc). 

Work with parents to help them understand and fulfil their legal responsibilities in respect of attendance under the Education Act 1996. 

Maintain high quality working relationships with staff, students and parents/carers that contribute to creating a productive and happy working environment

What are we looking for?

  • Understanding of factors that impact on attendance, including CME, CSE, exclusion and other barriers to learning 
  • Ability to plan and implement effective actions to support students with poor attendance or punctuality 
  • Communicate clearly in English with all sections of the school community both orally and in writing 
  • Highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and independently 
  • Adaptability and flexibility in working practices and the ability to use their initiative
