Job overview

Horbury Academy are looking to appoint an Attendance Coordinator to play a key role in promoting consistent and positive attendance across the school. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils and their families, as well as external agencies, to address barriers and encourage regular attendance.

This role requires the ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils and families, with the aim of improving overall attendance and reducing the levels of Persistently Absent pupils —particularly among disadvantaged pupils.

Working in partnership with Pastoral Year Leaders and the wider Pastoral and Inclusion teams, you will monitor and review individual attendance, track progress against school and year group targets, and contribute to the development and delivery of effective intervention strategies.

The position is on a full-time basis working Monday to Thursday 8.00am to 4.00pm and Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm, with a half an hour unpaid lunch break per day.

At Horbury Academy, we strive to create an environment where pupils enjoy learning and are given the opportunity to stretch themselves both academically and also through a wide range of other extra-curricular activities. Our success is founded on traditional values set in a warm, friendly environment.

We are confident that new staff joining our Trust will feel welcomed and happy to have chosen us. Prospective applicants are welcome to visit prior to applying.

Horbury Academy is a mixed secondary academy, catering for pupils aged 11-16, situated on the outskirts of Wakefield. The academy building is purpose built, under one roof, allowing for a unique community and supportive feel.

Horbury Academy has gained a reputation for excellence, inspiring pupils to be the best versions of themselves and vowing that all lessons are engaging and purposeful. It strongly believes that all pupils are entitled to experience the full breadth of education and calls on pupils to demonstrate a thirst for learning and become increasingly independent. Its popularity results in Horbury Academy being continually over-subscribed.

Their strong tradition of success is built on a firm foundation of personalised pastoral care, ensuring a climate for learning that is calm, well ordered and secure. Recognising the hard work and efforts of pupils in their lessons, the academy puts learning and positive recognition of both staff and pupils, at the heart of its approach.

From securing academic success to securing success in extra-curricular activity, its staff are fully committed to ensuring that all pupils make the most of their time at Horbury Academy.

It understands that partnership is an important aspect to the ongoing development of schools and academies and with this in mind, it works alongside Ossett Academy & Accord Sixth Form, Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy as part of the Accord Multi Academy Trust.

The vision of this partnership is to enhance both practice and knowledge of learning across primary and secondary education, whilst also providing access for pupils and staff to an even better range of opportunities in order to achieve excellence.
