School Context

Horizons Academy Bexley provides high quality education and support to pupils in Key Stages 1-4, who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from their mainstream school. We also provide a short-term provision at our Satellite centre for learners, who are unable to attend school because of a medical need.

We focus on early intervention, offering a range of services from short term respite to longer term education for students in KS4.

Our aim in KS1 – 3 is to re-integrate the learners back into a mainstream or specialist school via our ‘Refocus programme’. We work closely with external agencies and our partner schools to identify the needs of the child, develop the child’s ability to learn, so that each learner feels confident about being in the classroom.

School Vision

At Horizons Academy, we aspire to provide the best possible experience for all of our pupils, which is underpinned by our core values of Relationships, Respect, Resilience and Readiness.

Our aim is to create a positive learning environment, where each pupil feels safe and happy to contribute to the wider school community. All pupils that attend Horizons Academy can expect support to achieve their goals, whether that be towards positive outcomes at the end of Key stage 4 or an opportunity to be re-integrated into a mainstream or specialist setting.

Our curriculum has been developed to focus on English, Maths and Reading, aimed at closing any gaps in knowledge, so that each pupil is prepared for the next stage of the educational journey. We believe that these fundamental skills are essential to helping pupils become well rounded citizens, who are able to productively contribute to the wider community.

Ultimately, we want all learners to feel confident about their future and in their own ability to live a successful, meaningful life.
