Job overview

We are seeking to appoint for the position of Attendance Officer to join our new and expanding team from September 2024. Our successful candidate will need to travel to academy sites throughout the week, therefore access to your own vehicle, a clean driving license and correct business insurance is essential.

The Leigh Academies Trust believes that an aspirational and inspirational education is the right of every child. School is not easy for every child, and missing school can put children off learning, cause anxiety, and make school feel more challenging than it needs to be.

As the Trust Attendance Officer, under the direction of the Trust Attendance Advisor, you will be responsible for working with academies to help create a strong attendance culture. Your role is to support and challenge our families and academies, to develop effective processes that reduce pupil's and family's barriers to attendance.

We are looking to appoint an experienced person who can work as part of an attendance team to support academies and deliver a trust-wide attendance strategy that helps support the achievement of pupils. You will be able to relate well to staff, support the good practice in place and not be afraid to challenge.

The ideal candidate will understand the impact poor attendance has on a pupil’s life chances and be determined to make a difference. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to learn rapidly, adapt your approach to different needs and, above all else, never give up on any child.

This is a permanent opportunity, working 37 hours per week, term time + 2 weeks of inset with an actual salary of £26,381 per annum (£29,904 full time equivalent).

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust: As of 1st September 2022, our Trust comprises 31 geographically organised academies (15 secondaries, 14 primaries and 2 special) educating 20,000 students, and employing 3,000 talented staff. The Trust is establishing four ‘clusters’ of academies: North Kent; Central Kent; South East London; Medway. In addition, the Trust is responsible for one of the region’s biggest initial teaching training organisations, a large teaching school hub and is an accredited apprenticeship provider. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust, you will have ample opportunity to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust. This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together. You are supported to undertake regular self-development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across Kent, Medway and South East London. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. Today, we encompass more than 20,000 students between the ages of 2 months and 19 in over 30 primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through academy and one grammar school.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
