The Governors are seeking to appoint a Behaviour Co-ordinator and Mentor who will work with the Director of Learning, responsible for behaviour and attitudes to ensure that all students at Welling School behave consistently well and have positive attitudes towards their education.

We are seeking a person who has experience and a proven track record of working with students to improve their behaviour. The role will also involve overseeing the systems and structures the school uses to manage behaviour and make sure that school detention runs effectively.

As a Behaviour Co-ordinator and Mentor, you will:

● Oversee the organisation of the Refocus Room. This room is staffed by members of SLT and is a new space where students are placed if they are not following the school rules. Once in this space students have an opportunity to reset and one further opportunity to return to lessons. If a student is placed here twice in a day they will stay in the Refocus Room until 3.55pm.

● Ensure that School Detention is a success with staff following the right procedures and making sure that students attend.

● Oversee the use of software packages (i.e Class Charts) associated with behaviour management.

● Ensure that excluded students are effectively reintegrated on their return and associated paperwork is filled.

● Work with the DOL to provide mentoring to students that have been excluded so as reduce the number of repeat exclusions.

● To identify and individual behaviour and learning needs and act accordingly.

● Ensure that previously excluded students are provided with opportunities to make a positive difference to the school community.

● Create, implement, develop and refine strategies that would support students with managing their own behaviour so that they became positive role models for their peers and further support the culture of active and positive engagement with the school community.

● Lead on creating a positive environment in school and ensure that the school’s plan for dealing with bullying is effectively implemented.

● Support staff members with the implementation of behaviour policies.

● Oversee the management of paperwork for Internal and external exclusions.

● Attend the School’s Behaviour Improvement Forum each week and provide updates about previously excluded students.

● Where required attend meetings with parents/carers to discuss behaviour.

● Manage the support of students at Alternative Provision.

● Work with the DOL to oversee the effective management of managed moves.

● Track behaviour trends across the school and provide summary reports for the DOL and members of SLT.

● Set the highest professional standards and maintain a visible presence around the school.

This is an exciting new role at Welling School and an opportunity to join a committed team of staff who are passionate about ensuring that the behaviour and attitude of students across the school is exceptional.  As this is a new role, the appointed candidate will need to be flexible and willing to adapt to changing demands and responsibilities in line with the needs of the school. The role is suitable for a non-teaching member of staff.
