Salary: Scale 4 NJC Point 18-21

Werneth School is a vibrant and popular school in Stockport. The school serves a diverse community and is entering an exciting phase of its development. The school entered a brand new school premises on 2nd November 2016. The school has embarked on a number of significant developments over the last 2 years, with the appointment of a new headteacher in September 2015.

We have an exciting post to work in our new provision that aims to address and overcome a range of barriers to learning and engagement. This unit caters for a very small number of students who are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream school. The centre also provides a place where students complete fixed term exclusions.

This is an exciting opportunity to support in the design and implementation of an innovative approach to engaging young people who, so far, have failed to engage with the education system.

The successful candidate will be required to support students throughout their participation on the project, enabling them to overcome a range of barriers to learning and giving students the time to reflect on their behaviours. Students who are required to attend this provision will do so for a fixed period of time before returning to mainstream lessons.

The post holder will have excellent behaviour management skills and be passionate about encouraging disengaged and disaffected students to participate fully to enable them to reach their full potential.

To be considered for this position, applicants are asked to complete the attached application form, using the person specification and job description to show how you meet the criteria.

Please return the completed application form either by post to Mrs Catherine Humphreys, Werneth School, Harrytown, Romiley, Stockport SK6 3BX or by email to catherine.humphreys@wernethschool.com.

Values and Vision

Werneth School values pupils who have excellent attendance, who are well behaved and those who work hard to achieve their goals. The school aims to get to know each individual child and teachers should nurture and support them. The curriculum is one that meets the needs of all the students attending the school. The goal is for teachers to encourage every student to be positive about their futures. The school experience should be fun but it should also push them to become life-long learners. The aim is to help the students develop important life skills, this includes being independent, resilient and have respect for others.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well. Attainment has risen rapidly and securely since the previous inspection. So too has the progress students make given their starting points. Students achieve well because teaching is usually good with some that is outstanding. A minority of teaching requires improvement. Most teaching is well planned, lively and challenging. Students enjoy learning and have positive attitudes towards school. They behave well and are respectful and courteous. They feel safe and are cared for well. Attendance has improved significantly. Leaders and managers, including the governing body, drive the school strongly and purposefully forward. They are at the root of the rapid and sustained improvements that have taken place.”
