Job overview

We wish to appoint a Behaviour Officer to join our Inclusion Team. The focus of the role is to support the work of teachers by operating the school's behavioural support systems e.g. Inclusion Room, On Call system. As part of our Inclusion team you will work with students whose behaviour is a barrier to their learning and social inclusion.

You will understand and implement the school’s Behaviour policy, issuing rewards and sanctions, investigate incidents that may arise within the school, taking statements from students and responding to staff accounts of incidents. You will provide mentoring e.g. anger management, behaviour support to identified students to meet their needs in overcoming barriers to learning and social inclusion.

You will have:

  • experience of working with children / young people preferably in a school, youth club or similar environment;
  • the skills required to liaise effectively with parents/carers, students, teachers and other stakeholders; 
  • knowledge and understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, Equal Opportunities and approaches to inclusion. 
  • a good standard of literacy and numeracy along with IT literacy skills.

Hours:   35 hours a week, 39 weeks a year (term time only plus 5 INSET days)

Prendergast Vale School is an all through school, nursery to Year 11, and rated as Good by Ofsted in February 2018.  It is one of the top performing mixed schools for E-Bacc in Lewisham. The school benefits from being part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of Schools and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Federation.
