Job Title: Behaviour Support Assistant

Responsible to: Deputy Head

Salary: Grade F £26,409 - £27,711 pro rata, term time only

Contract: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week, term time only

Start Date: September 2025


Job Purpose

To support the school in maintaining a positive learning environment by managing the on-call system for students removed or out of lessons, providing targeted behaviour support and helping students reintegrate into the classroom effectively. The Behaviour Support Assistant will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to promote a culture of respect, responsibility, and readiness to learn.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage on-call behaviour incidents across the school day
  • Support and supervise students temporarily removed from lessons
  • Use restorative approaches to help students reflect and reintegrate
  • De-escalate challenging situations using effective behaviour strategies
  • Record incidents accurately in the school’s behaviour management system
  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support student needs
  • Provide one-to-one or small group mentoring where appropriate
  • Attend behaviour and pastoral meetings to contribute to support planning
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and professional presence around the school
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and orderly school environment
