This role establishes and runs a calm, restorative Reset Room where students removed from lessons reflect, complete curriculum work, rebuild self-regulation and return to mainstream lessons ready to learn. You will support vulnerable students with academic catch-up and emotional regulation, reduce repeat removals and improve engagement.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead day-to-day operation of the Reset Room, maintaining a calm, purposeful and restorative environment.

  • Ensure students complete high-quality curriculum tasks supplied by teaching staff and record completion and progress.

  • Hold restorative conversations after removals to help students understand the impact of choices and identify practical strategies to improve behaviour.

  • Prepare students for reintegration, liaising with class teachers to share agreed strategies and adjustments.

  • Monitor students after reintegration and provide short-term follow-up support where needed.

  • Accurately and confidentially record removals, restorative conversations, interventions and outcomes in line with academy procedures (including CPOMS use where applicable).

  • Identify patterns or repeat removals and report these to pastoral leads to inform targeted interventions.

  • Work closely with the SENDCo, Pastoral Team, Attendance Team, safeguarding staff and teaching staff to coordinate support and share relevant information.

  • Maintain professional boundaries, follow safeguarding procedures and contribute to ongoing review and development of Reset Room practice.

What we're looking for

Essential

  • Experience with secondary-aged students who display challenging or complex behaviour, or equivalent experience supporting vulnerable young people.

  • Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and experience recording and reporting concerns in line with school procedures.

  • Practical experience of restorative approaches, behaviour reflection conversations or comparable behaviour-support techniques.

  • Ability to build trusting relationships with young people and maintain calm, high expectations for behaviour and learning.

  • Good written record practice and basic IT skills; experience using systems such as CPOMS is advantageous.

  • Strong communication skills for working with staff, parents/carers and external agencies.

  • Willingness to engage in training in SEND, SEMH, trauma-informed practice and behaviour support.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a Reset Room, withdrawal provision or similar internal inclusion setting.

  • Formal training or qualifications in behaviour support, mentoring, youth work or education support (where held).

About the team

You will join the academy’s behaviour and pastoral provision, working with the Lead for Internal Reintegration, SENDCo, Pastoral Team, Attendance Team, teaching staff and safeguarding colleagues. The role is collaborative: you will coordinate closely with colleagues to plan reintegration, share strategies and contribute to targeted support for individual students.

What we offer

  • Access to relevant training and professional development in SEND, SEMH, restorative practice and safeguarding.

  • A role combining academic and pastoral work, with scope to influence daily practice and the effectiveness of the Reset Room.

About us

This role reports to the Principal and Assistant Principal and sits within the academy behaviour and pastoral structure. The postholder will contribute to improving student outcomes, wellbeing and engagement through consistent, professional practice.

This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory references, qualifications, experience checks, medical clearance, enhanced DBS checks, social media checks, and documentary evidence showing your entitlement to work in the UK.

Ofsted

“Students are proud of their academy. It is a calm and orderly place to learn, where most students work hard, and all feel safe. Leaders at all levels, including governors, have acted effectively to improve the academy. They have raised the quality of teaching by eliminating any inadequate practice, and have improved students’ behaviour. They have clear and convincing plans to improve the academy further.”
