Job title:      Behaviour Support Coordinator

Location:         Meadowcroft School, Wakefield, WF1 4AD

Hours:       42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary:       £23,693.75 per annum

Contract:       Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Behaviour Support Coordinator to join our close-knit team at Meadowcroft School located in Wakefield.

About the role

The post holder will manage and work as part of a team supporting the learning and behaviour of students. The post holder will provide practical support for individual students and work with the whole school to promote positive behaviour management.

Support to Students

  • To provide positive role models for other support staff.
  • To maintain dialogues with key people around individual children’s needs (for example: Community Leader, Pastoral Leader, Form Tutor, Class Teacher, Youth Service and Education Welfare)
  • To provide other adults in school additional support in behaviour management through observation, shared planning and working alongside colleagues.
  • To monitor and evaluate responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording, feeding back to appropriate staff.
  • To assist in the taking of statements for any student involved in an incident that requires further investigation.

The right candidate will be/have:

  • Educated to Level 3 (A level or equivalent)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in behaviour management.
  • Experience of working with families and young people who have challenging behaviours in a variety of settings including secondary education
  • An awareness of the current issues affecting young people
  • Experience of managing in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working with outside agencies
  • Trained in counselling/behaviour management and child protection
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft packages: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint – supported by achievement of ECDL or similar

Welcome to Meadowcroft School

Meadowcroft school is based on four sites, The Lodge, The Gallery, The Hub and The Works, each providing very focused care for the children we support. All our children have complex social, emotional and mental health needs and many have additional severe learning and communication difficulties. Most of the children we care for have struggled to engage in formal education, so our job involves far more than simply providing an engaging and creative setting for them to learn in. We come alongside our children, take an interest in their lives and help them to overcome barriers that prevent them engaging in education.

The staff at our school know each child well enough to be able to set ambitious, realistic targets and put in place a structure of support to ensure they achieve them. Success looks very different for each child, so we take time to build personal plans and celebrate the progress they make.

When our pupils leave Meadowcroft, we want them to have secured the skills and confidence they need to find sustainable employment; developed interests and hobbies to keep them motivated; and learnt how to make and sustain healthy relationships. With these key skills, we know our children can be healthy, happy, successful adults.
