Maiden Erlegh School in Reading is an ambitious, over-subscribed 11-16 secondary school in an urban context which is as committed to the welfare of students and staff as it is our high-quality education. Our Behaviour Support Workers are instrumental in helping students maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere within the school. They operate in a busy, ever changing environment that challenges their thinking, sometimes on a minute by minute basis. Decision making skills are necessary, as are empathy and resilience.
This role is responsible for the following:
- To support positive student conduct around the school through our behaviour systems including “On Patrol”, Daily After School Detention and corridor duty, during lesson transitions.
- To supervise our Therapeutic ‘Sanctuary’ room, where students who need emotional support seek help and advice.
- To provide one-to-one mentoring to identified students.
- To support the supervision of students during break and lunch times.
- To support the Pastoral Team in managing behaviour, being on hand to support throughout the day across all year groups.
The successful applicant will be energetic, creative and enthusiastic and enjoy working with 11-16-year-olds. You will enjoy nurturing young people to grow in confidence and flourish personally. You will share our inclusive values of “opportunity, diversity and success for all” and you will have a willingness to develop your own practice in line with our ethos of continuous improvement.

In January 2014, a bid from Maiden Erlegh Trust to the Department for Education to open a new school in the East Reading area was successful. The central proposition of the bid was to open a new school that shared the ethos, culture and values of the well-established Maiden Erlegh School in Earley, Reading, Berkshire.
We proudly opened Maiden Erlegh School in Reading to its first Year 7 students in September 2015.
