Job overview
We are looking for a bilingual Classroom Assistant to work in our tiered provision for EAL learners and provide excellent tailored support for our students whose first language is not English. You will support the learning of individual students and small groups in class under the guidance of a teacher, as well as leading small-group withdrawal interventions. You will also monitor the achievement of EAL students, recording and reporting on their progress, and will develop interventions to boost and accelerate their progress.
To be successful, you will have Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths, a work-related qualification, and the ability to speak and, ideally, to read and write in one or more additional languages. A Romanian speaker would be desirable. Other languages we need support with are Ukrainian and Russian. Of overall importance is the need for flexibility and the capacity to work across many languages and support pupils from diverse backgrounds and needs. You will need good communication skills, flexibility and knowledge of best practice in meeting the needs of EAL learners.

We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area.
