Job overview

An experienced Manager is required for our Breakfast/After School Club Provision to coordinate the service and supervise deputies and assistants, covering maternity leave.

You are required to hold a relevant NVQ3 qualification and have experience of working with children in the 5-11 years age range.

You will be working closely with the children, providing encouragement and supervision for the duration of the club, ensuring the safety, welfare, physical and mental wellbeing of pupils and that the provision offers a wide range of activities in a relaxed, informal and caring environment, whilst maintaining good order and discipline

Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred is a three form entry Academy located in the heart of Chafford Hundred, which is a modern development bordering Lakeside and Thurrock, serving a vibrant and diverse community. Chafford Hundred has good links to central London as well as being accessible from Kent and Essex.

Our students are well rounded and benefit from a curriculum which includes; computing, sport, art, musical theatre, Music lessons, educational visits and guest speakers. We also offer a variety of after school clubs and activities, which are open to the children.

We have a modern Nursery building, which provides education for 52 pupils on a part time basis.

Our breakfast and after school club provides care from 7.45am – 6.00pm each day. The dedicated staff offer meals and snacks and join the children in games and creative play in each session.

We work closely with our colleagues in other Harris Primary Academies and Free Schools and benefit from the additional teaching and learning opportunities this provides.

We offer many opportunities for our parents and the local community to share in our students' learning and encourage our parents to attend academy events.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will be:

  • To successfully manage all staff of the Breakfast/Afterschool club including performance management, managing staff ratios, organising cover for planned and emergency absence.
  • To establish and maintain positive relationships with all professionals involved with the breakfast/After school club, including, but not limited to, school office, catering staff, teachers, SLT.
  • The day to day management of the setting. To take specific responsibility for the management, organisation and running of the Breakfast/Afterschool Club provision, to ensure that parents and carers are provided with high quality childcare for their children.
  • To maintain a safe, creative and stimulating environment for children's play experiences.
  • To prepare the planning of a programme of activities designed to meet the needs of the children. To manage and organise the Breakfast/Afterschool Provision.
  • To ensure that responsibilities and duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding policies and within the Equal Opportunities framework.
  • To ensure all policies are kept up to date and adhered to.
  • To establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families in a way that values parental involvement.
  • To positively celebrate children's achievement through displays
  • To provide a service that respects children's life experiences and celebrates diversity in terms of language, culture, ability, race and religion.
  • To be responsible for the setting resources and report loss/damage or low stock levels to the relevant staff and to request/order resources needed in a reasonable time frame.
  • To work with the Extended Provision Manager to organise regular team meetings in order to discuss and assess progress and any issues.
  • To ensure that all children are registered and remain on the premises at all times except during organised trips and outings or by special arrangement with the parent/carer. e.g., on trips and outings children are still the responsibility of the Breakfast/Afterschool Club Leader/Deputy and a register must be kept with you.
  • To form and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children, young people, staff, volunteers, parents and carers.
  • To provide a creative programme of arts, crafts, games, sports, drama, music, off-site activities relevant to the needs and interests of all children, regardless of their race, religion, culture or language, physical or mental ability.
  • To be responsible for Health and Safety issues at the Breakfast/Afterschool Club with regard to clearing, setting up and running activities – both indoor and outdoor, trips, outings and general risk assessment.
  • To attend weekly team meetings as instructed by the Extended Provision Manager to discuss and assess progress and any issues.
  • To carry out financial and administrative tasks as directed by the Extended Provision Manager
  • To participate in training if instructed to do so by the Extended Provision Manager.
  • To keep the building and areas of use, including toilets, clean, tidy and accessible
  • To Follow first aid procedures
  • To follow and promote the Academy behaviour policy at all times
  • To produce a segment for the Academy newsletter each week


Qualifications & Experience

  • NVQ3 or equivalent qualification or experience in relevant discipline (Playworker or Childcare)
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills
  • Appropriate knowledge of first aid
  • A willingness to undertake further training, if necessary, to meet the needs of the students.
  • Experience in a similar role or working within a school setting
  • Experience of supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities

Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred is a good school with high educational standards. Our children’s academic progress is regularly monitored to ensure they are all doing as well as they possibly can. The children also take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including a five-day residential visit for Year 6 pupils. Parents are very involved in school life, through our PTA, through homework projects, and through Reading and Maths Volunteers.

The school was graded as Good by Ofsted in May 2014, having moved from Requires Improvement, and is now on the pathway to securing outstanding provision for all pupils.
