The innovative education department of a prison based near Aylesbury have asked us to recruit on their behalf for a highly skilled and experienced Brickwork Tutor to join their team on a full time, temp to perm basis, starting as soon as they are NOMS cleared.

HMP Spring Hill is an Open Category D (resettlement) prison, housing approximately 320 male prisoners who are at the end of their custodial sentence and working towards resettlement. The prison's regime includes incentives, education, workshops, training courses, farms and gardens, a works department, and a gym. There are also voluntary and paid outwork programmes and a listener scheme.

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for teaching and is able deliver exciting lessons which will engage the vulnerable learners who have little to no previous education or training.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a vocational qualification in Bricklaying (level 3 or above).
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed).
  • Hold relevant assessor/verifier awards.
  • Have teaching/training or vocational experience in a relevant discipline/subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
  • Have a proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes.
  • Have experience of identifying, developing and sharing innovative and creative teaching resources
  • Have experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
  • Have knowledge of current curriculum and accreditation developments within Further Education and specific subject area(s).
  • Have the ability to teach creatively, adapting to the needs of a variety of learners and willing to explore new teaching and learning strategies.
  • Have good IT skills and willing to develop further.
  • Show accuracy and precision in written presentation.

Ideally, you will be prison cleared, which means the role will be able to commence at an earlier date. Although, this isn't essential.

Candidates will be subject to DBS and reference checking due to the nature of the role.
