Introduction

Blackheath Prep is an independent prep school for just over 370 boys and girls aged 3 to 11. Founded in 1996, it occupies a beautiful five-acre site close to Blackheath village. Its original Georgian and Victorian buildings have been extended and adapted to include large playgrounds and extensive playing fields, tennis courts, cricket nets and a Forest School area. 

The Role

Blackheath Prep is seeking to appoint an experienced, organised and proactive Building and Services Manager who will be responsible for the management and operations of premises related functions.

Person Specification

 The successful candidate will possess significant experience of working in an similar premises or maintenance role covering buildings, mechanical and electrical services. Ideally, they should have a background in managing workplace Health and Safety and Fire Safety compliance In addition they must have experience managing a team.

 The successful candidate will also possess excellent IT skills, hold a building or service qualification, and ideally hold an IOSH qualification in safety management. In addition, there will be an expectation that the post holder will have basic plumbing, electric and painting & decorating experience.

 The role requires a high level of organisation, strong interpersonal skills and communication skills. Other valuable qualities include being proactive, flexible and have a meticulous attention to detail. The successful candidate will also possess the ability to work autonomously, prioritise conflicting demands, manage a diverse and demanding workload, and the ability to stay calm and good humoured under pressure.  

 Although not required, previous experience working within the educational sector would be advantageous. 

Terms of Appointment

  • The post is available as soon as possible on a full time and permanent basis
  • On-site, working hours 7am- 4pm, Monday to Friday, there may be a small requirement for Saturday and evening working as necessary to support external hires and events.
  • Salary is £30-32k per annum, depending on experience
