Job overview
The King’s Bruton Foundation comprises two remarkable schools, Hazlegrove Prep School and King’s School, Bruton, both of whom are united by a common set of values and principles and bound by a shared history that stretches back to the foundation of King’s in 1519.
This family of schools offers an exceptional educational experience to boys and girls aged 2-18 years, both boarding and day pupils. Based in the beautiful Somerset countryside, King’s Bruton and Hazlegrove are widely regarded as leading schools in the South West, offering the highest level of teaching and pastoral care on a genuinely bespoke educational journey.
As part of a single Foundation, both schools benefit from a unified Governing Body and a structure which enables cohesive strategic planning, financial resiience and the sharing of expertise across both schools.
Following the planned retirement of the current Bursar, the Foundation is now seeking an outstanding successor to lead the financial and operational functions of both King’s School, Bruton and Hazlegrove Prep School. The Bursar will work closely with the Governors and both Heads, and report directly to the Governing Body to provide the leadership, professional expertise and operational oversight required to support the long-term sustainability of the Foundation.
This is an exceptional opportunity to take on strategic responsibility across two highly respected independent schools.
The successful candidate will possess significant senior leadership experience in finance, operations or corporate services and have experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams.
The role requires a strategic thinker who is able to establish highly effective, collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders and colleagues at all levels. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, robust financial judgement and acute commercial appraisal will be essential.
