Job overview

Holme Grange is a successful, traditional Independent School with a real soul. We aim to stimulate intellectual curiosity and encourage pupils to embrace challenge. We have high expectations, setting high standards for ourselves and our pupils. Pastoral care is the responsibility of every member of staff and is one of the many strengths of this thriving School and we have waiting lists in most year groups.

The Bursar is responsible to the Governing Body for the conduct of financial affairs, business management and material state of the premises and to the Headteacher for the day to day operation of the school.

The Bursar attends all Governance meetings and works with the Head and Board of Governors to develop the overall strategic direction of the School

The postholder will join a team dedicated to the effective running of the School and will work collaboratively with colleagues across academic and support functions. They will demonstrate the wider context of support operations in our authentic, ambitious, courageous and inclusive learning community.

An accountancy qualification and experience in the independent education sector would be desirable but not essential and we welcome applications from senior leaders with equivalent experience gained in other fields.

Holme Grange is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants for all jobs will undergo appropriate child-protection screening including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to enhanced level. A Prohibition Check is also carried out. Holme Grange School is an equal opportunities employer.

Full details and application form available at www.holmegrange.org or by telephoning 0118 978 1566.

Applications will only be accepted by completion of an application form which should be submitted with a hand-written letter of application to the Headteacher, Mrs C Robinson. The letter may be scanned and sent with an electronic application.

Pre-application visits are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Matthew Watts our HR and Compliance Manager. An application pack can also be supplied by request to hr@holmegrange.org

Interviews will be held on 25th June 2025.

Holme Grange School is an independent school for girls and boys aged 2-16 years. Set in 21 acres of Wokingham countryside, we offer a unique educational journey in an idyllic setting; delivering a creative experience, sporting prowess and academic excellence.

Our pupils are prepared to succeed in an ever changing, competitive world. We offer challenge, we strive to inspire, develop confidence, provide opportunity and realise potential in every child. We are committed to providing the very best education.  The ethos throughout the school is one of warmth and friendliness - questioning; divergent thinking and the freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, develop good work habits and gain a sense that learning can thrill and invigorate. Life in our school is a journey of exploration, and discovery. Academic standards are excellent. Physical health, emotional well-being, moral understanding and an appreciation of culture and the arts, science and the humanities all form part of the core curriculum. When a child leaves us, they will be well-prepared for the world – self-confident, sociable and articulate – with many special memories of their time here.
