Job overview

We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic Business Manager to join our school leadership team. This role is full-time and all year round.

The successful candidate will be:

• A strategic thinker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Experienced in business, finance and resources management (an accountancy qualification is preferred but not essential)

• Preferably experienced in Academy or school finances but applications from outside the education sector are welcome.

• Able to relate to and build trust with a variety of stakeholders

• Skilled at managing people and systems

• The ability to work and maintain focus under pressure, and to tight deadlines

• Confident in using new technology to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

This is a key role which will provide specialist advice and support in a number of different areas. The successful candidate may possess extensive experience in two or more particular fields eg Finance and HR or you may already have business management experience either in a school, or you may have worked in similar areas of responsibility outside the educational sector. 

Financial:

• Liaise with the CMS senior leadership team and the Governors to inform, present and monitor a robust school budget

• Support staff with delegated budgets and systems

• Monitor and report on all budget lines including curriculum budget

• Drive income opportunities through letting school facilities

• Seek external funding opportunities

• Manage project contracts

HR and staffing:

• Manage professional service staff, eg office and administration

• Oversee the recruitment process for all staff from start to finish

• Oversee the Single Central Register for safeguarding records and processes

• Oversee HR processes, supporting the SMT to manage staffing issues

• Oversee training and professional development records for all staff including proactively managing the administration of safeguarding training 

• Be the first point of contact for all staff at the school on pay and contract related

• issues, liaising Governors, HR and Payroll as necessary

Procurement

• Support procurement of resources, ensuring value for money

Site and Development

• Appraising and managing school development projects

• Liaise with the Estates Manager to plan, monitor and control capital expenditure on buildings and grounds, including appointing contractors

• Proactively generate income from leasing school facilities e.g. summer school

• Liaise with North Yorkshire County Council, eg on planning matters

• Support event planning and logistics as required

Compliance

Liaise with Estates Manager, SMT and Governors to ensure compliance of Health & Safety compliance, employment legislation and licences.
