“The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding”
We are seeking to appoint a motivated and ambitious Business and Economics Teacher to join our popular and oversubscribed STEM specialist academy. We can be flexible to appoint the most suitable candidate and offer 0.7, 0.8 (Wednesday afternoon and full day Thursday off) or a full-time position. Applications are welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers (NQT’s).
The Social Sciences department at the UCL Academy is a flourishing department that offers Economics and Sociology at KS4 and KS5, Business BTEC at KS4 and Psychology at KS5. We are passionate about equipping our students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the 21st century and believe wholeheartedly in supporting the development of the whole child. As a result, alongside strong academic performance, we emphasise the importance of developing student collaboration through projects, communication and presentation skills, as well as IT literacy. We have an enthusiastic and passionate team of teachers who inspire students to achieve beyond their potential through strong teacher-student relationships and making learning relevant to students’ lives.
We believe experiences out of the classroom play an important role in inspiring students as well. Recent trips have seen our A level Economists visit the Houses of Parliament to learn about how government economic policy is formed, and meet an Economist in the Civil Service Fast Stream to learn about economics careers. Our A level Psychologists visited Bethlem Royal Hospital to learn about the history of mental health treatment and social perspectives on mental health. We also collaborate with our sponsor, UCL, across a number of areas including organising guest lectures by UCL Professors, and UCL undergraduates mentor our students. The 21st century can be confusing and complicated for young people, and the Social Sciences department seeks to help our students make sense of and navigate the world with confidence and panache.
Proudly rated Good by Ofsted in all 4 categories in June 2016, The UCL Academy is a mixed 11-19 Academy in the heart of the London Borough of Camden. Priding ourselves on high academic aspirations, A-Level students in 2016 attained substantially above the national average for A*-B grades, and we expect GCSE outcomes to be well above the national average when the first cohort of pupils take their examinations in 2017; Our sponsor University College London provides a range of exciting academic opportunities and exposure to university life for pupils. We offer iconic state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to work with the latest innovations in classroom technology.
