Cambridge Maths School (CMS) is a new specialist sixth form being developed in partnership with the University of Cambridge, opening in September 2023 with a focus on pioneering learning and increasing diversity in the field of maths and Mathematical Sciences. The school will provide a diverse range of young people with access to a unique educational experience, located in bespoke facilities on Mill Road in Cambridge. The school will offer A levels in mathematics, further mathematics, biology, chemistry, computer science and physics.

This is a hugely exciting time to join the Maths school as you will contribute to the school’s strategic development as part of the Senior Leadership Team from the very beginning. You will be part of the team that shapes the education vision of an excellent school.  The ideal candidate will bring creativity and leadership skills to support and inspire both the science department and the wider school community and lead on the development of the unique curriculum in sciences that seeks to meet the needs of students with an exceptional attitude and aptitude for mathematical sciences.

The successful applicant will join the Assistant Head who is leading maths to work as a team to create an integrated curriculum using subject specialist knowledge from across all the A Level subjects and beyond to support learning across the curriculum.

The school will deliver a highly specialised A level STEM-based curriculum to enthusiastic students from the Eastern region. CMS aims to attract high achieving students from groups who do not normally progress to the most competitive university STEM courses.

We are looking to appoint a leader who is both passionate about enabling young people from diverse backgrounds to thrive as well as having a proven track record in exemplary classroom practice.

Primary Purpose of the Role

1.   Ensure the effective development of a broad, structured and coherent Academic and Enhanced Science curriculum.

2.   Establish and sustain high-quality teaching, of A level Sciences to high-achieving students.

  1. Ensure a culture of staff professionalism and contribute to establishing the ethos and culture of the school.

4.   To build a collaborative learning culture within the school to ensure that every child reaches their full potential in all areas of their development and makes excellent progress.

5.   To work with the necessary ability, vision, energy and enthusiasm, and as a skilled negotiator, with all, putting the needs of the children first.

6.   To work with the Deputy CEO and other Trust Leaders, to respond dynamically as appropriate to key national policies and initiatives.

7.   To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom the school is responsible and those with whom they come into contact.

8.   Work with the governing board as appropriate.

9.   Maintain working relationships with fellow professionals and colleagues to improve educational outcomes for all pupils.

10. Work successfully with other schools and organisations .

11. To lead an additional area of whole school responsibility (to be discussed at interview).

These will take place at Chesterton Community College during the week commencing 6th of February 2023 and will include a range of activities and interviews.
