To provide outstanding career’s advice to our students maintaining the high standards of the School.  This job description is written at a specific time and is subject to change as the demands of the School and the role develops. The role requires flexibility and adaptability and the employees of the School need to be aware that they may be asked to perform tasks and be given responsibilities not detailed in this job description.  Your duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Support for pupils

  • Contribute to the UCAS process, taking responsibility for the training of form tutors and subject teachers in order to ensure draft references are produced efficiently and students are given the necessary guidance to complete their forms, personal statements and make suitable choices. Checking, supplementing and finalising references and completed forms.
  • Provide support for students who choose not to enter university but may look for work based training, apprenticeships, gap years.
  • Carry out careers related presentations within the General Studies programme.
  • Contribute to careers education within Personal Development lessons. This includes delivering lessons to fit with the scheme or work.
  • Support students who wish to apply to international universities with their applications.
  • Contribute to the process of advice and support with Year 13 as they prepare to accept university offers.
  • Provide advice on Student Finance, Extra, Adjustment and Clearing to students in Year 13.
  • Support academic staff and students on results day in dealing with clearing and university place issues.
  • Help coordinate the service provided by Inspiring Futures and Morrisby.
  • Manage the careers library in the careers office.
  • Monitor the delivery of careers in the school in order to develop the service.
  • Ensure that the guidance service provided by the school meets the necessary quality standards as are appropriate in an Independent school.
  • Assist in managing the careers budget.
  • Updating of the careers software and resources.
  • Support Y12 potential medical applicants with work experience opportunities
  • Be available to offer careers advice and guidance to students in the form of one to one interviews and follow up emails, under the guidance of the Heads of KS5.
  • Record all interviews electronically.
  • Promote equal opportunities and challenge stereotypical thinking.

Event Organisation, promotion of events and services to students

  • Supporting the Y9 / Y11 Options Exhibition.
  • Together with the Careers Team, organise the school Careers Fair.
  • Assist in preparing students for option choices in Year 9 and Year 11.
  • Give presentations on UCAS and Post 18 Options to the Sixth Form and to staff supporting the UCAS process.
  • Update and improve the schools’ careers information documents.
  • Assist students to develop independent information seeking skills in careers.
  • Advertise and arrange student trips to universities, the Oxbridge conference and the UCAS Convention.

Support for the School

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings, inset and directed time
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as requiredOrganise Careers related trips
  • Promote the school and its pupils positively at all times
  • To carry out any other duties requested by the Principal

Queen Ethelburga’s College is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England all-through school with sixth form situated in Thorpe Underwood, York. It is an independent day and boarding school, with the majority of its pupils boarding. The Collegiate Foundation is the school’s proprietor. The school will provide 1,000 places for nursery, primary, secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 0-19, when fully subscribed.

The school first opened in 1991, taking over from and moving to the site of a school in Harrogate. The Faculty of Queen Ethelburga’s, which alongside the college forms Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, was founded in 2006.
