Due to our continued expansion we are seeking a Careers and Higher Education Guidance Counsellor to join our dedicated team.

Established in 1972, Dover Court International School in Singapore is one of the leading inclusive British international schools in South East Asia.

The school caters to students from age 3 to age 18. The curriculum is based upon the UK EYFS framework, the National Curriculum for England, the IPC, IGCSE/GCSE and the IB Diploma Programme. The school is active in the local International School sports league and are extremely competitive across a number of sports. The school has an extensive programme of residential trips starting in Year 4 and continuing up into the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. All students are involved in a wide range of after school activities mainly run by teaching staff. About 10% of our students are supported by our integrated SEN unit.

We are members of FOBISIA and CIS and will finalise CIS accreditation in November this year. We are a EDEXCEL and AQA exam centre and are authorised by the IBO to deliver the IB Diploma Programme. We are the only school in Singapore to offer ASDAN courses.

Staff are well supported with weekly CPD sessions run in-house and access to external training courses where they fit the school and personal development plans. There is a strong ethos of professional collegiality.

About the role

The Guidance and Higher Education Counsellor will further develop our programmes and processes to assist students with the choices and applications for options beyond the school.

The role requires knowledge of current good Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) practice.  The successful candidate will need to be proactive in keeping this knowledge up to date, highly organised and have excellent communication skills enabling them to build strong relationships with a range of people including; pupils, parents, teaching and support staff and outside agencies. They will have an enthusiastic, innovative and dynamic approach to CEIAG and in the delivery of the careers and employability programme throughout the school

The Careers and Higher Eduation Guidance Counsellor will work predominantly with the IB Co-ordinator to deliver the CEIAG strategy. They will also work closely with the Assistant Head for Community, Progress Leaders and Form Tutors to deliver a coordinated, engaging, comprehensive, and dynamic careers and employability programme. 

Inclusivity is at the heart of DCIS and as such, employability is an important consideration for our students and parents.  The successful candidate will provide CEIAG to our students to enable them to develop their career choices and enhance their employability. In this role you will be confident to conduct 1-1 career advice sessions with our students and offer them impartial careers guidance. You’ll need to provide information on students’ attitudes/needs, their aspirations and developments in relevant career areas as well as offer general careers support. 

As part of the role, you'll also oversee the school's UCAS and Higher Education activity including:

supporting students with UCAS applications via the school's UCAS portal

supporting teachers in regards to student references and relevant content

liaising with Universities to organise HE and career talks

Whilst the Sixth Form continues to grow is, we foresee the successful candidate support our general counselling programme as well.

Your strong motivation and communication skills will also enable you to create a feeling of energy, excitement and personal investment in our students. You will also be able to meet visa-related restrictions for Singapore.
