We offer a unique opportunity for a Careers and University Guidance, and Well-being Counsellor to join our team in August 2024. The Secondary School is currently open to students in Grades 6 to 11 and will open Grade 12 in August 2024. We offer a high quality, bespoke, International Curriculum in Grades 6, 7 and 8. In Grade 9 our students begin the High School Diploma.

The Hamilton International School is a Candidate School* for the DP programme. This school is pursuing authourisation as an IB World School. About the role

We are looking to appoint a Careers and University Guidance Counsellor to join our amazing team who will:

•Be responsible for ensuring all Secondary Students are well informed about their pathways through Middle School and High Schol

•Be responsible for ensuring all Secondary Students are well informed on university pathways

•Uphold the academic honesty policy

•Track students’ university applications

•Advise students and families on pathways in group and one-to-one meetings

•Promote careers pathways across the Secondary School

•Lead careers day

•Organize university related field trips, fairs and guest speakers

•Network across Doha and ISP with key global educational partners

•Be responsible for the development and delivery of the Futures Curriculum

•Lead the implementation of Unifrog across the Secondary School

•Have deep knowledge of university applications, across the globe and expertise in CV writing and personal statements

•Have up to date knowledge of best practice for university applications

•Be knowledgeable of academic requirements from international exam boards such as the IB, and a deep knowledge of the High School Diploma, GPAs, SATs and IELTs

This is a combined role and would require the successful candidate to act as a Well-being Counsellor for the Secondary School students. We are looking for someone who will:

•Support the emotional wellbeing of students in a secondary school school setting

•Provide group and individual support on an ad hoc and planned basis

•Provide formal counselling with consent of the family (if appropriately trained and qualified)

•Support staff and the Pastoral team in managing incidents and behaviour

•Support families – individuals, support groups and larger groups e.g. through workshops

•Work with the inclusion team, medical and safeguarding staff to provide the very best pastoral care for children

•Take responsibility for personal, professional development, keeping up to date with research and developments which may lead to improvements in the counselling service provided, arranging and delivering relevant training for staff as and when needs are identified

•Work with the whole school Well-being Counsellor

Child Safeguarding and Protection

Criminal Background Checks

All successful applicants will be subject to satisfactory Criminal Background Checks covering the 10 years prior to their start date with the school; this will cover all countries of residence during that period.

The Hamilton International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers and criminal record checks.

A minimum of 3 years teaching/guidance counsellor experience is required, preferably with experience of the US High School Diploma and the IB DP. This role is not suitable for NQT’s.
