Star International School Al Twar and Al Qusais is a part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP). Star International School is a bespoke English Curriculum school catering to students from FS1 to Year 13 and is located in the heart of Dubai. Star currently has 625 students.

 

Purpose of Role

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified Careers Counsellor to join our friendly, efficient and successful team. The successful candidate will be in a position to provide sound and effective advise based on individual meetings with the children

Careers Counsellor Key Responsibilities

·       assessing personal characteristics, skills and interests via individual interviews and/or group work, and relating these to suitable opportunities

·       providing help and advice in a range of ways, including face-to-face meetings such as drop-in clinics and guidance interviews, social media and direct personal contact by email, phone and Skype

·       liaising with schools, colleges, academic departments, employers and professional organisations

·       organising work placements

·       writing careers literature, action plans and reports

·       making presentations

·       working with academic departments to provide career management skills (CMS) sessions

·       running workshops and events, which may include external speakers such as representatives of employers or professional organisations

·       supporting psychometric and personality testing

·       using specialist computer-aided guidance applications

·       attending conferences

·       advising students on CVs, covering letters and interviews, and holding mock interviews

·       providing personalised and bespoke student career plans

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

·       Qualification in Career Development (QCD) or Qualification in Career Guidance (QCG) and Equivalent Relevant British teaching qualification to teach Secondary School ICT (a Bachelor’s degree and a recognised teaching qualification)

·       A minimum of 2 years recent teaching experience in KS3, KS4 and KS45 

·       A good working knowledge of the latest UK practice from either the UK or a British Curriculum school overseas

·       A good knowledge of the GCSE curriculum

·       Excellent communication skills to lead by example, as well as collaborate with Key Stage leaders, Senior Management and parents

·       Be flexible and adaptable

·       Have the ability to research new initiatives and implement them whilst evaluating current processes

·       Have the ability to confidently utilise AFL strategies and a variety of tasks to enhance learning

·       Be proficient in ICT.

·       Demonstrate leadership qualities and the willingness to deliver in-school inset.
